Quick question about a de-bunked theory??

I’m new to this site and came across an old de-bunked thread from last year entitled ‘Lost was inspired by this book’

Firstlt, I apologise, I don’t really know who de-bunks them.

Secondly, please could you explain why it was de-bunked. This thread was written last year and now if you read it SO MUCh is true and has happened since first posted.

Appreciate anybodys help with this!

Thanks Kelly

PS i have just bought the book to see any more clues for myself!!!

I found the theory and agree that it hasn’t really been debunked.

here’s a link to the theory:

First off, welcome to the site!! That theory probably hasn’t been debunked. Some of the trolls take great joy in logging into the site with multiple names and flagging theories to move them off of the main board. I’m not sure what thrill they get from this, but they do it very often with a lot of theories.

    Jerks.

Is there a way to make it “no longer debunked”?? Hehe.

Debunking is based on votes. I haven’t read the book so I don’t know how the theory was debunked — but it could be that people who read the book found it to be less similar than the poster claimed it was. Or it could be some other reason as referenced above.

I think it is pretty clear that there is no single source for everything we see on Lost but, at the same time, there are many many books (and other works) that have influenced the Lost creators and writers.

if the author edits the theory it will move it back to where it would originally have been on the board. the irony is that it is easier to find on the debunked page than where it should be.

I agree with Chuck. I also feel that this theory has some life left in it. This theory has nothing it in to be marked as debunked. +1

I’ll quote myself from this very, very recent thread: http://lost-theories.com/theories/2008/mar/31/lost-based-book/

    http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Literary_references

There are dozens of books that have influenced the writers, many of which appear in the show. Visit the site and you’ll see that this was already referenced by fans during the Lost Experience ARG. :)

    http://lostpedia.com/wiki/TheMysteriousIsland ”

And I’ll add clarification. The Mysterious Island certainly has similarities to the world of LOST, as do many, many other books. You could make comparisons of LOST to other literary works all day and never find one book that encompasses a complete and accurate theory of all things that occur on the island. LOST is a compilation of ideas, some original and some inspired by other literature, including The Mysterious Island, by Jules Verne.

I’m new here as well, and no one is opposed to drawing conclusions from literary references, unless the conclusions are able to be refuted by facts. If you read the book and find that it gives you insight to a greater mystery that no one else has stumbled upon, please share! :)
