How about if time moves alot slower on the island than the rest of the world. The Adam and Eve corpes from Season one may, indeed, be THE Adam and Eve and time moves so slowly that they only seem to be 50-60 years dead, while the rest of the world has seen hundreds of years pass.

When someone enters the island their body is sent back to the past, but their conscience stays in the present time as their brain has experienced all those years and can’t forget them. Maybe that’s why they seem to have an idea of what they are ‘supposed’ to do. Desmond would be more prone as he was at the heart of the electro magnetic event. I would imagine that the further from the island you get, the closer to present time you get. Also the closer to the 325 bearing you are, the closer to present time you are. This might explain why there is no constant time difference. Eg the rocket from the freighter takes 31mins to appear, desmond travels between 8 years. My first theory, so don’t be too harsh… EDIT The makers of the show have stated that the whoe Adam and Eve thing was put in on purpose to prove that they weren’t making the whole thing up as they went along. So basically that scene holds the key to what this whole thing is about. In one of the podcasts they also emphasised the phrase ‘ancient civilisations’. so common sense would link that with the 4 toed statue.

    Welcome Rayder!!

Great thinking. The only problem I can see with this theory is that time moves much faster on the island, from the evidence given. That is why it seemed like it took 31 minutes for the payload to reach the island to the freighties and it seemed like it took - what was it? 2 days or so? - to the Losties. It seemed like MORE time had passed to the people on the island than it did to the people that were miles off coast. So going off that evidence, if “adam and eve” (I am assuming you dont mean the real Holy Bible Adam and Eve cause they would be more like thousands of years old in “off island time”) appeared to be 50-60 years old on the island, they may actually be only months or just a few years old in the “off island time.” Hopefully what I said just made sense, I confuse myself a lot. haha!!

+1 for your first post being better than most peoples’ first! I like what you said about time changing depending on your proximity to the island, though. And to the bearing 325. Dont know if it is true, but it is nice thinking. :)

Producers had stated that a clue to Adam and Eve’s identies would be revealed in the episode “Not in Portland” and, although it may have been missed it entirely, most fans speculate that the clue is here:

Lost time. But what it all means is still a mystery.
