i have calculated the exact location of the island

it’s like this…

Desmond believed that the island is a week east of Fiji at 9 knots.

And this fits with Rousseau’s statement that she was 3 days out of Tahiti when she wrecked on the island.

so…being that we know the speed(9 knots)…

and that we know the time(one week)…

we can calculate the exact distance from Fiji that one crosses going at speed of 9 knots for one week long….

and being that we know that Desmond sailed EAST…we can then use that distance to plot a straight horizontal line going east from Fiji to get “exact” location of the island.

for the graphical part of this we can then use the tool like Google Maps Distance Calculator…which enables us to precisely “turn our numbers into graphics” and visualise our distance on the map..and get the exact possible location of the island..

so…

it’s like this….

time=1week= 604800 seconds

speed=9 knots=4,63 meters per second

distance=speed*time

distance=2800224 meters

thats 2800,224 kilometers

and thats our result…

the island is 2800,224 kilometers east of Fiji.

and now when i use that number in the Google Maps Distance Calculator…

we get it on the map:

now…math doesn’t lie

so this calculation is perfectly correct..but it’s all based on the desmond’s statement

so if he lies….i lie too

but the math is correct

(i wrote the simpler version of this calculation here cos there were some conversions and mid steps which would be confusing)

so visible or invisible…based on what Desmond said..the island is 2800,224 kilometers east of Fiji.

    Hahaha…. wow dude that is cool! I think this is possible, or at least the island is probably in the general vicinity of your calculation. There are some variables though.. like you said, was Desmonds statement accurate?.. i mean he did seem pretty out of it… drunk i mean. Also there may be variables, it’s probably not exactly east and probably not exactly 1 week or even exactly 9 knots. Hence my opinion that you’ve probably got the vicinity… But then again how does Des know where the island is exactly? He got caught in a storm and probly drifted awhile after passing out when he first crashed on the island. Really cool thought though math wiz!!

    +1

    Wow, more power to ya for thinking of all that and not having your head explode….lol.

    there are many variables as you said…

    is the speed of 9 knots constant for a week..

    is it a bit left east or a bit right east….

    is it a week or a week plus/minus a day..

    but those numbers are the best we got…

    so..

    math says it’s in that circle for sure if we can rely on desmond ;)

    probably not on the same SPOT where i put it….but in that area..

    check my theory on the island i think im pretty close and on mine 3 island do exists

    i don’t think danielle ever stated how fast her ship was traveling. i could be mistaken…just don’t remember hearing that. if she was going faster(or slower) than 9 knots, your calculations could be off

    Wouldn’t this depend on Desmond’s instrumentation? That is, his compass may have told him he was sailing East, but with the magnetic anomaly screwing up his bearings he may have, as Juliet once remarked, simply been sailing round in circles. Thus his ‘journey’ cannot be a reliable chart of location, can it?

    +1 for tedious effort! I hope you are exactly right

    hp, +1 for all the hard work you put into this! I wouldn’t have attempted it and I hope you’re exactly right, too. :)
