In the most recent ABC podcast, March 21, 2008, it was revealed that Christian Shephard, Yemi, and Kate’s horse share the designation “undead”. I found this curious, since Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelofit have allready established that Christian Shephard is dead.
After the episode ‘ Meet Kevin Johnon’, I realized there seems to be no cost or method too high to control the island. A prerequisite of my theory is that Widmore had to be involved in the Flight 815’s actual flight to the island. I find it hard to believe Frank Lapidus would conceive of the plot to fake the Flight 815, gain access to Widmore, convice him of his theory, and have Widmore take unbelievable cost and actions to fake the flight in Sundra Trench and man a frieghter with special ops and helicopter within weeks of Flight 815 . Frank may have told Michael that as a cover, but as I said, I think Widmore planned 815’s flight and subsequent events years prior.
To get back to my initial theory, I believe that the person we see as Christian Shephard is a person hired by Widmore due to his uncanny resemblance to Christian Shephard. They probably took his body from the casket so they could form any needed prosthetics and apply make up to fnish up their double with make up. What is telling about Christian Shepard on the island is that he never talks (like Yemi) and seems to be shorter then the off island Christian Shephard (this is relation to Jack, but could simply camera angle or uneven ground). The purpose of Widmore doing this could be to lead Jack to the caves with fresh water, ensuring their survival for Widmores eventual need for them, while preping the Losties to believe almost anything
.I also think Ben realized this, and the end was near (sorry), when he saw the plane fall from the sky.

well, I kind of agree, but that would make it very difficult to tie it all together neatly.
It is interesting the he never speaks. Jack would then kow hes not his father
Wat about where he talks to Vincent and tells him to wake up Jack ecause he has “work to do”?
hey guys, I’m posting a link to the definition of “undead” I really hope that was poor word choice by the producers. I just don’t think zombies on the island will fly.

Lateratus, I think that was in a mobisode. Although the modisodes are to considered canon, what I meant was he never speaks to Jack. Jack would recongnize a voice that wasn’t his fathers.
Cobra, I hope your right, because Calton Cuse and Damon Linderoff have been talking about the ‘Zombie’ episode in the final season for a couple of years. They always jokingly refer to it, but they are consistenly joking about it, like a joke they don’t let go. That’s not like them. I wouldn’t put it pass them to literally tell us the about a zombie as a joke, then say we told you all along. Remember Locke said nothing stays buried on this island. When the others had a funeral, they set her afire and put her out to sea Something to think about.
I hate the idea of Zombie Island. That’s just way too much.
We would have wasted some good years if the finale swings this way. Anyway, nice post. +1 from me!
LostMap, welcome to the site! Your theory assumes, I think, that Widmore had Christians body switched before the flight and all the necessary surgery done in time to board. Then Widmore would have to hope this new guy survives the crash.
It’s fresh and unique, but I just don’t see a good enough reason for it, unless he also put a GPS on him.
cobra, eewwwwww It better not end that way!
Ummmm are you forgetting that its demonds fault that the plane crashed? if widmore is lookin for the island and doesnt know where it is, how can he set up desmond to go there and press the button at the right time. im pretty sure widmore knew about the island before the crash and jus didnt know where to look. then when desmond activated the fail safe he knew where to look. he is pennys daddy after all. nice idea but no.
If Christian on the Island was Widmore’s man, you would think Widmore would have a better use for him. Namely: allowing him to get on the Island!
Widmore sent the likes of Dan and Charlotte there to disable The Tempest, caring nothing for the plight of the Oceanic 815 people. Why send a Christian-double there to ensure they get freshwater? Doesn’t make sense. Too small-fry for Widmore’s grand schemes.
Undead doesn’t necessarily mean “Dawn of the Dead” type zombies. I think that the spirits of those who already died being able to contact and commune with the living is a big piece to the islands mystery. However, I think the producers can’t really give a good description of what these “undead spirits” are without spoiling the show, so they use the easily recognizable and humurous terms “undead” and “zombie”. In that way, an ending that includes “zombies” may not be that bad.
spirits are not zombies. undead seems to imply that the actual body is not dead. the body not being dead = zombie
