In fact, the thought just occurred to me that if I wanted to explain to someone what LOST was all about and why I love it, then having them read that would be the perfect way to accomplish it.

  11. jazprof Sep 16, 2007 8:28 a.m. Comment: 11

Was out at dawn by the river this morning—probably about 50 degrees. A couple of buddies from Taiko class met to practice. People sculling or canoing by. Big communal garden behind us. Saw a gigantic turtle in the river. Ordinary things are just so incredible.

  12. shamballa Sep 16, 2007 8:30 a.m. Comment: 12

That was a Haiku moment jaz….

  14. Stip Sep 16, 2007 9:33 a.m. Comment: 14

WTF: thanks for sharing that. I thought it was a great analysis.

The thing that struck me was the “vanquish thy father” issue. I never really thought about the idea that someone is trying to validate that theory.

  15. jazprof Sep 16, 2007 10:08 a.m. Comment: 15

    Yeah, thanks wtf…

I had never thought the death of fathers might be part of the time travel paradox. Bit I also liked the idea that the whole circle of life has gone awry.

The section considering various characters as heroes was good—and yup, just as kat has pointed out, Des looks most like the archtypal one. The picture of him after he’s fallen off the ladder—somewhat “hanged man” again—but also disturbingly looks like a man whose throat has been cut. And in considering Ben as hero—I liked the idea of Richard as Ben’s “Boone” figure (maybe that’s why the two of them have the eyeliner). Richard is Ben’s spirit guide? Parallels between Locke & Ben drawn attention to. It does make me wonder about Richard’s first appearance to Ben as a child again—is he a tangible person there, or a more like the Boone Locke sees after Boone has died?

WTF: I just re-watched it. Did ANYONE notice that in the promo picture of Jack for Season 4, that he’s wearing a key around his neck?? Makes me think that perhaps Stip is right about “a doorway” being on “the island”. Any thoughts on this?

  18. lockeko Sep 16, 2007 10:58 a.m. Comment: 18

he used to wear the gun key around his neck, is it the same one?

  21. lockeko Sep 16, 2007 11:31 a.m. Comment: 21

can you link to the photo dab? Are you sure you’re not just excited about the 300/jack picture in the link?

  22. shamballa Sep 16, 2007 11:31 a.m. Comment: 22

I don’t think that’s an official promotional poster folks. ;)

If it is, then they would have had to pay the makers of 300 a nifty sum.

Quoting: “If they (the posters) look like this, we’ll know that’s exactly where they’re taking this story.”

  23. shamballa Sep 16, 2007 11:36 a.m. Comment: 23

  41. billinsandiego Sep 16, 2007 5:03 p.m. Comment: 41

+1. Due to my background, this is an excellent explanation of time travel. Because time travel is yet to exist, at least in practice, it is hard to conceptualize. This theory by fishbiscuit, is beautiful. I need to go back and read the rest of his/her theory. This is a better example of explaining time travel than using I-D-I-O-T-S like Tesla. I now know there are other intellegent people on this website.

  42. dabiatchishere Sep 16, 2007 5:26 p.m. Comment: 42

Yes, and thank you for the compliment!

  43. wtfsignmeup Sep 16, 2007 5:37 p.m. Comment: 43

billinsandiego…have you seen the orchid station orientation vid?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bTvAUVPyLI

Its the reason why so many theorists think time travel is involved…well bi-location ,actually.

  44. billinsandiego Sep 16, 2007 7:08 p.m. Comment: 44

Let me explain it this way. It is very hard to conceptualize velocity. For example, I can give example, such as, airplane travel and the such, but imagine explaining plane travel to a cave man, really just imagine how complicated that would be. Actually, it would be difficult to explain airplane travel to a commoner in England in the 13th century.

Because time travel deal with mathematics yet to be discovered, I can’t even begin to “see” what time travel will be like. I feel that the orchid video is a likely case, and the producers of lost probably consulted with real professionals to deal with the dilema of what time travel will look to people that have a hard time dealing with velocity. I think that is why the eye in the begining of so many ep. or prevalent. Alot of what going on in lost is from the perspective of a unique individual, I guess just like life. I could go on, but this is already a bit too long.
