Thanks to Frodo’s post I remembered something that I have been meaning to ask everyone for ages so it’s maybe more of a question for the medical (knowledgeable) types on the site.

OK he goes nothing………………………

The tailies found a glass eye in the Arrow (way before we meet Mikhail) but obviously when we met Mikhail the glass eye made sense, as we all assumed it to be his, which by the way I still think is the case. However in through the looking glass when Mickhail removed his eye patch his eye had completely healed over (obviously having not sued to glass eye for sometime) this guys I think is a major clue as to how long Mikhail has been on the island. We were meant to put these things together.

So my question being how long would it take for Mikhails eye to completely heal over and does it fit in with Mikhails story about how long he has been on the island.

I personally think that it would take almost a lifetime for an unused eye socket to heal completely as Mikhails but I have no medical back ground and the island healing properties sort of throws it all out of sync. damn damn damn this show.

Check out my Bebo site I have put the photo’s in the under lost photos

Good question, dood. I guess it would depend on weather or not it was treated medically or if the Island’s healing powers helped out. It looks to me like the skin healed over the socked completely - does this mean that theres a big pocket of nothing where the eye used to be? Does that even work? Optometrists? Anyone?

  2. Hexagon01 Sep 12, 2007 4:47 a.m. Comment: 2

    Socket, even. Dammit…

  3. Hexagon01 Sep 12, 2007 4:49 a.m. Comment: 3

Oh.. and determining the passage of time on the Island based on wounds wouldn’t work because of the advanced (un-predictable) healing factor.

Hex yeah dood fair enough, I just can’t help thinking these two events are trying to lead us somewhere.

i’m not sure that the authors went so far into the details for showing us this, but who knows!

Mikhail seems like he’s there forever. Seems to know everything, speaks many languages, revives multiple times … He also doesn’t seem to integrate with the rest of the others . He only hangs around with the weirdest of the group, which is Ben & Klugh…. we could call him “The Rousseau of the others” :)

Hexagon: check my theory about electricity, I would love to hear your opinion.

the big question for me here is why put his eye in the arrow with a hollowed out bible with missing film stuck inside - did the owner of the glass eye remove the swan orientation tape - if so, is mikhail actually radinski???

  11. DharmaSpy Sep 12, 2007 6:37 a.m. Comment: 11

on and a +1 from me for a good thread

  12. xiv Sep 12, 2007 6:41 a.m. Comment: 12

Dharmaspy: Mikhail is actually Radzinski… I was excited to read that… but just for like 10 seconds, because …

Kelvin Inman said he buried Radzinski. I don’t see why he would lie about something like that…

  13. Hexagon01 Sep 12, 2007 6:44 a.m. Comment: 13

    Also, Mikhail=Raszinski has been debunked.

    when was mikhail=radinski debunked??

  16. Hexagon01 Sep 12, 2007 6:59 a.m. Comment: 16

    From Lostpedia:

Production notes According to the March 20th, 2007 episode of the official Lost podcast, Mikhail’s entire story was true except for the part about being in the DHARMA Initiative. An early on-set name to describe the character, Patchy, was referenced by script coordinator Gregg Nations on the Fuselage forum. Nations also confirmed that Mikhail is not Radzinsky and that Radzinsky is in fact dead.” During Comic Con 2007, Damon Lindelof listed some of the Others that died, and he included Mikhail in the list.

Thanks Hexagon! No holes to be found? :)

  18. xiv Sep 12, 2007 7:03 a.m. Comment: 18

Hexagon: so Mikhail is dead for real now? he used all his 7 lives? or do you mean that Radzinski was in the list?

  19. DharmaSpy Sep 12, 2007 7:07 a.m. Comment: 19

i have to say, i though that was how that was going to play out

  20. Hexagon01 Sep 12, 2007 7:07 a.m. Comment: 20

Well….I’m not sure! That was a direct quote fro Lostpedia! Raszinski is dead for sure but I think that they meant that Mikhail is actually for real dead now too.

  21. Annie79 Sep 12, 2007 7:34 a.m. Comment: 21

Hex: I’m sure they said Mikail is dead now too.

sleepz: That pic does show his eye with skin grown over it. So why the glass eye? And I think that’s the first time we’ve seen him without his eye patch.

And if the glass eye belonged to Mikail, he must have left it there a very long time ago. Why would he leave it there? The Arrow had been abandoned for a long time, so that makes sense.

But there has to be a reason, if it is Mikail’s, why he wouldn’t go back to get it.

btw, where is everybody this morning??

    RE: The eye.

I’m not a doctor, but I know to people who have lost eyes. The first was an old man that my friend and I used to swap fishing stories with as kids and the second is a cousin.

The old man didn’t use a glass or a patch and he looked just like Mikhail except (since he was actually missing an eye) it was more sunken in.

Occasionally, when the old man raised his eyebrows or rubbed the area, the lid would crack open just a little bit and the only thing we could see behind it was moist, pinkish flesh. I assume the tear ducts were still working. Anyway, it freaked us out. :)

My guess is that just like any amputation the body heals (even without island juju) and scars over, otherwise there would always be a risk of infection like a diabetic whose injuries don’t heal.

I don’t think he or my cousin were on antibiotics for their eyes so I’m basing my guess on that.

  33. xiv Sep 12, 2007 8:11 a.m. Comment: 33

Shamballa: you know people who lost eyes, annie knows people that work in casket companies… what a crowd! :)

Annie, I was in the process of posting a reply on how you can check your version (I’m sure you have some version) of Flash and my computer locked up. LOL! did you jinx me? :)

  35. shamballa Sep 12, 2007 8:14 a.m. Comment: 35

LOL, xiv! I think Hex is fairly normal if that’s any comfort.

  36. shamballa Sep 12, 2007 8:22 a.m. Comment: 36

But to answer your question Annie; the make of your computer really doesn’t matter. It’s your operating system. So if you’re running Win XP than the answer is “yes it will work”.

If your computer is a brand new Dell with XP then you are probably updated and if you click on a vid that uses Flash it will tell you if you aren’t.

  44. shell Sep 12, 2007 9:05 a.m. Comment: 44

I’ve taken out lots of eyes. You remove the eye, cut along the eyelids so as to make a fresh edge (remove about 5mm) and sew the eyelids shut. You have to make sure you remove the tearducts, etc or you will have problems. At first the eye socket fills will blood and it looks like there is still an eye underneath the sewn eyelids. Then the body abosorbs that blood clot and before long you just have skin over a sunken eye socket. Takes about a month or 2.

Probably one of the more easier surgeries to perform with very low complication rate.

  45. sleepz Sep 12, 2007 9:07 a.m. Comment: 45

ok ok so the verdict is that the eye would have healed quite naturally over that period of time and its doesn’t mean the he’s been there for ages then!!!! damn me and my over wandering mind.

I just happen to have a strong stomach. Most of the eyes I’ve taken out are from horses or cows. A few dogs and cats. Actually, the horses look kinda cool with a sunken eye socket appearance.

shell: why you need to take eyes out of animals anyway? you look like a charming person, but it’s scary stuff :)

  50. shell Sep 12, 2007 11:11 a.m. Comment: 50

xiv- eyes can become very painful for in a variety of disease states which cannot be controlled medically. A painful eye can be excruiating (have any of you guys had cockelburs lodged in your eye?) and can become refractory to medical therapy….SO, we remove the eye, we remove the pain and the animal does great. Sometimes the medical therapy will be too expensive for the owner but the surgery is not as expensive, so they chose to have the eye removed. Some can’t afford either and the animal is euthanized to stop the pain. Reality stinks sometimes

    Geez, shell… Hard job, yours.

  52. ProfOzone Sep 12, 2007 12:21 p.m. Comment: 52

So… we can conclude that if Mikhail left his eye in the Arrow at some time in the past greater than one year, his socket might look the way we see it in TLG.

Folks… what if Radzinsky had a run-in with Mikhail (one of the Hostiles) resulting in Radzinsky knocking his eye out. Perhaps Radzinsky took the eye as a trophy and this is what he originally used the hallowed-out Bible for (hiding treasures).

This still leaves the question of how the Bible got all the way over to the Arrow. But maybe the Arrow isn’t that far from the Swan if you travel direct (rather than close to the shore as the people from the tail section did).

Would Radzinsky knowing about the tunnels and kicking Mikhail’s butt qualify as an “incident” thus causing the Others to block the them?
