Perhaps the numbers werent meant to be entered

This is just a possible reason for why Smokie killed Mr Eko.
My idea is drawn from my previous theory about Eko and Locke http://lost-theories.com/theories/2007/aug/28/mr-eko-tells-john-locke-your-n/ and Jazprofs latest group 1 discussion “control and explosions”.
Sorry if this has already been discussed 100 times before
I just wonder if Smokie killed Mr Eko because after seeing the obvious Skinner box experiment from the Pearl,he was still determined to enter the numbers.
I know a lot of people think Mr Eko was killed because he refused to repent for his sins but perhaps it has more to do with the fact that he refused to give up control of the situation in the Swan and let John have his way.
This showed Mr Eko to be more of a controlling personality and one less likely to be amenable for coercion, unlike John Locke.

You’ll never get a better or sweeter minus 1 than this. :) smooch :)
even when i lose…i win!
It’s not a bad idea, I think the real question is: Is the Monster for or against Dharma?
Of course the real reason Eko was killed was because the actor who played Eko wanted off the show! So we may be reading too much into Eko’s death.
CPB…I think the monster is against Dharma….I think Dharma represents control (entering the numbers)and the island represents synchronicity and fate.
I think there is evidence for either position. So what do you think the monster actually is?
It is a good point though and one I hadn’t considered I’ll give it a +1
CPB: I think asking who Cerebus is for is asking the wrong question. Who is controlling Cerebus is the better question.
I do not hold that Eko was killed for refusing to repent. I pose Eko was killed by Richard Alpert becuase Eko proved to be too powerful to be manipulated and thus controlled. Locke on the other hand is perfect as a puppet. Feed him a bowl of mystical island mumbo gumbo and he’ll do almost anything, blow up anything, kill almost anybody. Eko dead makes way for Locke to take over for Ben as leader of the Others.
Good point Stip, assuming it is controlled by anyone, it may have it’s own free will.
Cerberus has gone bamboo. It’s a rogue agent.
WTF: I believe that Cerebus was part of an experiment, that went array.
Regarding Eko: He definitely was viewed as a threat! But to whom, I am uncertain.
Nice thoughts, though!
thanks dab : )
Sorry, I forgot to +1
And your welcome!
no no no no no, there is no Smokie, but SmokieS! :) Definately more than one, the one that Locke saw in the beginning is not the same one that killed Eko or that wanted to take Locke away in its vent.

But I like your post wtf! :)
I think the smokey is in the eye of the beholder, I think it manifest’s itself according to your most hidden secrets, I also think thats what it was taking from Juliette her deepest darkest secrets for later use…………….
Locke seen something different than Ecko because he was looking for different things.
Also maybe smokey killed Ecko because he was a racist, Lockecko what do you think ????
Nah… it’s black smoke, dude… would’t kill a brutha…
Sleepz you are a naughty man! Btw has anyone seen Leko lately? I miss him :-(
:-(
Well guys…thanks for the comments. If nothing else,we’ve discovered that no one agrees about the mysterious Smoke Monster(S) .
All I know for sure is Mr Eko p#$%&d him off!
Why can’t Cerebus get thru the sonic fence?
Do you believe Juliet when she says “we don’t know what it is.” ??
I think Cerberus can’t get through the fence because it’s not programmed to go in there. We are said it’s a security system, and I think that’s very probable. I think the fence was originally designed to keep Dharma “workmen” inside it, not outside. Outside the fence, secret experiments were taking place.
But some sort of security system was needed, both to deal with “curious” Dharma people who might want to take a peek outside the allowed limits, and with the Hostiles. I think Smokey was “made” both to keep an eye on the Hostiles and, if it was needed, “terminate” one of them.
Juliet may be saying half a lie. Ben’s group may know what Smokey is —I am assuming Rousseau knew it is a security system, and Ben’s people has been on the Island longer, so why not? But they may not know how it works, or how can it be controlled.
If they had known how to use Smokey… why should they keep the fence on? Because of the Losties? It’s been ages until they found Othersville, and they needed Mikhail’s guidance to achieve that. Nah, the Losties were fairly under control. Smokey was not.
Now, why should Smokey kill Eko during their last confrontation, but not on the previous one? My only guess is this: first time Smokey meets Eko, it “scans” him and —using its own criteria— decides he’s not a threat. That must have changed since.
I’m with you, Occam.
I have to agree with Occam and Prof on this one. :-(
Annie: Why the sad face? Agreeing with me is that bad? ;-)
