LOST-Theories.com

i for one will try

— sleepz

I have been frequenting thIs site for sometime now and have had the pleasure of meeting some genuine, kind, clever people as well as some not so kind not so genuine and not so clever people (sighs poor Steve). any way in my time on this site I have always enjoyed popping on daily and checking out everyones opinions on whats happening on the show.

But this site is becoming more and more unenjoyable as the tension rises. I didnt sign up to read about people slagging each other off and argue, healthy debate shouldn’t end in with your mother sucking anything, thats just not right

Recently I know we have had a few Steve’s lurking in the side lines but we have also had some good budding theorists to mention one I would have to go with Crazy Polar Bear, not that every theory he has written has been great but he has brought about some interesting questions and theories to the table. I have mentioned CPB but there loads of other new users theories that I have had the pleasure of reading.

The hostility here however has gotten to the point of being stupid and often rude and insulting. I am mentioning no one theorist/user and I am including myself in this.

I think we all need to chill out a little here welcome new users to the site and guide them (nicely) in the right direction. Who really cares if someone posts something that has been posted before if its been discussed at length rather than writing a paragraph insulting that user, why not write a paragraph on the outcome of the discussion.

All I am saying guys is the site was always intended to be self managed so lets not all go tribal here, if we have the love of the show in common I’m sure we can all get along.

lets welcome new users and bring em into the fold

sleepz… to be honest… It bothers me more to see users slagging each other off and argue than Steve. Steve was just pulling our leg and was (sometimes) quite funny. Well.. I might be the only one thinking that though :)

    Good post!

XIV i agree we are so busy scaring off people that we aren’t really seeing the funny side of things.

I just want to add that I think a really good forum is made up of a diverse collection of people…from as many walks of life as possible.

If we all commented the same then why even comment.I like that peoples personalities and thoughts come out in their posts.

We just need to practice a tad more tolerance.

I’m with you xleepz. Thanks for saying.

Sleepz didn’t Hex just post about this issue? You really should do your research before…… yada yada yada :-)

No seriously thanks for bringing this up again. It seems that some folk are resisting learning from this so lets just keep hammering it home until we get things back on an even keel.

Wtf is totally right to say that we need to appreciate you can’t please all of the people all of the time and frankly who cares if you do?! We should all have the courage of our own convictions but in a nice way. There is no need to be horrible to someone if you disagree with them.

@ xiv I’m with you. Steve is kind of a hero to me in a funny way. I love the fact that he kept on posting, never responding to anyone and so on. He’ll be back, sooner or later and we should definitely practice our tolerance in the meantime.

Take a look around you people, the world could do with more kindness!

  9. sleepz Sep 10, 2007 3:40 a.m. Comment: 9

wtf, I agree I am not trying to stiffle peoples comments or even asking people to agree with posts, All I am saying is if we show more tact and support the new users will add value to this site.

Heh heh…thanks for the shout-out, mrssawyer. The fact that we need to keep posting about this issue says volumes about the state of the LT site as a whole right now. I feel exactly the same way you do, sleepz. Hopefully things calm down a little and we won’t ever need to post a thread like this again! ; )

  21. ProfOzone Sep 10, 2007 5:07 a.m. Comment: 21

I’m afraid there isn’t much meat on my ribs, but I was a runner when I was younger, so the thighs and calves are probably especially good. Might need to tenderize and marinate, though.

  22. mrssawyer Sep 10, 2007 5:07 a.m. Comment: 22

Prof I have to say normally the meat doesn’t talk this much!

Jaz the slight aftertaste of corn had me both laughing and salivating at the same time, lol.

Sleepz I’ll have mine rare on a bed of ffffava bean salad please.

    On a bun! The nerve…

And hey… if you want to remember what I looked like, during your meal you can wear an official Fred t-shirt! On sale now at CafePress!

mrs., ‘69 appears to have been a vintage year for vegans…

  25. ProfOzone Sep 10, 2007 5:31 a.m. Comment: 25

    VERY good year for vegans.

May I recommend root beer? Boylan’s Creamy Red Birch Beer has a full-bodied birch flavor with a hint of vanilla in the bouquet and after-taste. The version sweetened with pure cane sugar (not corn syrup) is a classic that will go well with roast vegan.

sleepz: I agree 100% with what you are saying.

Although I do try to be welcoming to the newbies and helpful in my comments, I will admit I’m guilty of some jabs at other commenters. But, since Hex’s post, I’ve stopped and tried to be nicer.

Thanks for posting this, maybe we all needed to hear it again.

  42. Occam Sep 10, 2007 8:43 a.m. Comment: 42

And thanks Annie for bringing us back on topic. I needed it.

  43. Agent_XXX Sep 10, 2007 8:59 a.m. Comment: 43

In all fairness, the humor on the site is a good way to build up a friendly rapport.

It’s true though, this topic is a nice reminder that there are new people who may not be completely comfortable with everything just yet.

sleepz: I am glad you posted this! I feel that when the new members are coming on to the site and reading theories, they may be misinterpreting some of the camaraderie that goes on between some of the folks who’ve been around for awhile! I think patience and tolerance, is likely the best way to handle newcomers.

  51. sleepz Sep 11, 2007 4:30 a.m. Comment: 51

dab, I agree 100% and also a little bit of slack (confidence building) for the younger members would also I think benefit our group.

Eh, maybe you’re right PG - he looks a little “gamey”…
