- Flag this theory:
As promised, I’ve added the ability to flag theories. This lets the LOST-Theories.com community (that’s you guys) control the categorization of theories on this site.
To flag a theory, simply select the flag you want at the top of the theory page, and click “Flag.”
Initially, six flags are available (I can add more if needed, but this will do for now):
- Spoiler: For theories which contains spoilers.
- Not a theory: For theories which really aren’t theories at all (like this one!)
- Debunked: For theories which have been officially debunked by the writers and/or producers of LOST.
- Offensive: For theories which you find morally offensive.
- Obsolete: For theories which no longer have a chance of being true, because of something that has happened in the show after the theory was written.
- Trollish: For “theories” posted by those trolls that come around and make fun of LOST and LOST fans.
When a theory gets enough flags of a particular type, it will show up under that category in the site navigation. Each user may flag a theory with a given flag type only once. You can “debunk” a theory as many times as you want, but only the first time will be counted. For example, you can flag a theory as “debunked,” offensive,” and “obsolete,” but you can’t flag it as ‘debunked” three times.
Thanks for taking the time to flag theories, guys. Doing so will really help keep the usefulness of this site high!
Since this post is not really a theory at all, feel free to flag it as such to test out of flagging works!
Jeff, I tried flagging this one as not a theory - does it take a while to register?
Trollish… =)
Anyway. Thanks alot!
Jeff: Ignore my previous comment, I re-read your description and it needs a certain number of votes as such to be categorized. Oops. It’s a welcome addition to the site!
Awesome. :-)
Now all we need is are flags for:
trivia: easter egg or other observation with little or no speculation about its meaning. (Example: “Did anybody notice that Jack talked about his father as if he were still alive? I don’t know what it means, but I thought I’d point it out.”)
repeat: a theory that has already been suggested by someone else. (Example: “Jack talked about his father as if he’s still alive, suggesting that we are dealing with alternative realities in LOST.”)
Then I think the dropdown would have it all covered. :-)
I think you’re a troll, personally
ProfOzone: I agree with your suggestions, but I guess trivia could be captured under “not really a theory”. Personally, I like SOME of the trivia posts (SOME!). As for the repeats, good idea, there’d sure be a lot of them!
Good suggestions, guys. I personally don’t care for the posting which aren’t really theories, and that was my impetus for doing this. BUT, I really don’t want to see those posts go away — I just want to be able to filter them out. SO, that’s the idea — not to remove the posts that some people consider frivolous (because I know other people like them), but rather just to make sure they are filter-able. :)
Glad you guys like it!
Filter-able democracy! Gotta love it.
thank god
oopos, i flagged it as trollish accidentally rofl
No worries, RacecaR — the beaty of the system is that a few mis-flags don’t hurt a thing. That keeps the accidents from messing things up, and also prevents one angry member from destroying someone else. :)
Can we get a flag for “Q&A”?
I think that a number of posts are merely questions, and it would be good to be able to separate those into a different heading then “Not a Theory”
