The abilitys are all linked to jacob.

— sleepz

Please bear in mind this is all a little jumbled at the minute as I have just finished watching the show.

  1. Ben wanted Locke to kill his father because Jacob can only effectley to communicate to people without major sin :- Ben needs children like Walt etc. to effectivly communicate to Jacob although his people dont know this. As locke got sawyer to do it he is still without major sin and able to hear Jacob.

  2. The Smoke monster and Jacob are the yin and yang of the island they are part of the same entity, Dharma originally split them up. Jacob needs to be reunited with the smoke monster to become whole and take control back over the island. The smoke monster is always searching for him. The powder is part of a ritual to prevent the two from rejoining

  3. Locke is not dead, Jacob WILL heal him and Locke will help him. Ben said “you dont go to see Jacob he summons you” now that jacob has spoken to Locke they will be able to communicate always. Lockes always had a partial ability to do this.

  4. Juliette hasn’t joined the 815ers it is all part of Bens plan for the losties to know that he’s coming. The lost tape panic was an act to keep the others from knowing his plan. which means that Ben is sorta out on a limb. Maybe he needs a major battle like president bush did to rally his troops. erm sorry did I say like president bush did………………………………….

To me at the moment it all pointing towards Ben being a constant bull*hitter even to his people. I think that hes told the others he communicates with Jacob and he was able to until he killed his father. from that point on he needed children with him to effectivly communicate. He hasn’t told the others yet which is why Richard thinks hes losing focus of the original plan. Truth is hes lost his ability and hes been a faker fro a while.

Locke has that abiity and Ben cannot handle it.

I just posted a theory kinda like this! haha I partially agree with you, although I dont think that DHARMA was trying to split them up. It seemed pretty evident that they were not under control of the Hostiles, the smoke monster, and therefore, Jacob. Good theory though, I like the idea of Yin and Yang there.

Yeah, I also had the idea that perhaps Ben could communicate with Jacob as a child but lost the ability when he killed his father, and assisted in killing all of his people. Not so much because someone else, specifically Jacob, would concider this a sin, but because it would change his own spirit internally. I think maybe whether someone can hear Jacob depends not on whether Jacob is sending the message but whether the person has a spirit that is turned on to receive it. There is also a verse somewhere in the bible about something being a sin if it burdens your heart or conscience. So maybe Lock is still able to hear Jacob because he doesn’t feel guilty about his part in his father’s demise.

Ben killed HIS father - so how come HE can communicate with Jacob?

That was explained in the post but - when Ben was a boy he could communicate with Jacob and gained the respect of the hostiles, which led him into a position of power with them, the day Ben killed his father he lost his ability to communicate with Jacob and has been using children to communicate for him. which is the point and bigger picture for takeing the children.

I think this explains Ben’s intensity with mothers bearing children on the island. If he has a child he can control from birth, he will be able to communicate with Jacob much more easily.
