Ben has been reading signs, but has he been trying to figure out what the island has been doing, or what Jacob has been doing?
What makes Ben more angry… the fact that Jacob talked to John, or the fact that he talked “privately” to John?
Will anyone, actually, come to John’s rescue?
Are we still in the middle of running cons? Did Ben know that John would get the recorder? If so, is Juliet in on Ben’s plan to thwart a coup?
Did the island call all of the crash survivors there, or did Jacob?
Is there a difference?
Does Jacob control and/or manifest the smoke monster?
If “the hostiles” were indigenous, how did they get there?
Are we to understand that Ben was key in securing for the hostiles the necessary weapons to “purge” the DI?
What happened to Ben’s childhood girlfriend?
The women who are dying in childbirth… are they suffering the same fate as Ben’s mother somehow? Is that what he’s trying to fix? Or is the whole fertility angle simply misdirection?
What kind of help does Jacob need? Did it seem as though Ben knew what kind?
Where was John’s faith? Why couldn’t he see Jacob?
Honestly, it seems we have many more questions than answers.
At first I thought that maybe the Hostiles decided to spare the Dharma children and raise them for their purpose and therefore all of the Others are grown-up Dharma kids. But then, yes…what DID happen to Ben sweetie? Did they really kill all the children?
i didn’t see any dead children.
i think john couldn’t see jacob, because his faith told him that there was no jacob, and that ben was all there was. but then the reason that we were able to see jacob for a second is because johns faith waivered for a second as things started getting hectic
i think that it might be possible that ben is causing the women to not be able to give birth (perhaps subconsciously), using some kind of powers he MIGHT have, which might be similar to the powers which walt MIGHT have, which might be why he wanted walt to leave, because there just wasn’t enough room on the island for the both of them. many mights though.
I feel quite confident that Ben’s girlfriend is Russo (sp?).
Hmm…. have we been given Rousseau’s first name?
Actually…unless Rouseau is faking her accent, Ben’s childhood crush could not be Rouseau.
i agree with hex. rouseaus name is danielle. what was the little girls name
Right! Danielle! Jeez…that was a serioius brain-fart on my part. ;)
the childhood girlfriend’s name is Annie
Could D-ANNI-LLE.. be Annie?
Its not Roussue I dont believe. And Ozone, see this is the beauty of an episode of this caliber….it creates EVEN MORE questions…which should provide us faithful fans more mysteries for many seasons to come I hope!
Hex, I think maybe no children were killed in the purge because they had all grown up already by then. I am assuming that at some point soon after Ben’s arrival Dharma stopped bringing children to the island and that the adults either could not or were not allowed to have babies. Did anyone see any children around in the scene where grown up Ben is talking to his dad at the camp before they left together?
Yes this episode does seem to add a ton of questions.
And ultimately got nothing but drama out of the whole thing.
I suppose above all else, we know that Ben is a very “bad person.”
Also I need to point out that the character of the others who’s name escapes me that Ben met in the woods and recruited Juliet would have to be at least 25 years older than when Ben met him in the woods. Assuming that Ben did kidnap Alex when she was a baby. Thats 16 years for Alex to grow up and roughly 10 years for Ben to grow up. And he sure didn’t look like he has aged 25 years.
And WTF is the deal with Patchy? Ben acted strangely towards him when he showed up… Perhaps just for Locke… perhaps not…
what the heck…i didnt like that episode too.. were promised so many answers, i see none….
what i can see from this episode, is that we can put aside the con theories, they didnt know about the stolen recorder and ben shot john (is that part of the con?). they are just not that good, they can make mistakes, not everything they do is part of a plan…
and the submarine, i guess thats how they really come to the island…not any traumatic adventure…and naomi is surely not with them.
and what about that jacob scene? what the hell was that? im tending to believe this is a simpler story than all expected.
are the hostiles immortal?? they look kinda modern though…
why would dharma choose an island with these hostile natives? did they already knew about that from the beggining? if not, they did a poor research work coming to an island when once you stepped foot on the florest you hear whispers and strange things like that.
and what kind of gas is that that killes outdoors??surely not the same used with kate as she didnt die.
where does the smoke monster fit in all this?
i hate lost :)
I think this is the first episode where I don’t feel like I can post or comment on anything. It just doesn’t seem like very many things were resolved one way or the other.
Just about every theory that’s being posted since the episode ended has some validity…
Yeah… I’m left waiting for the next two episodes, I guess.
well, i think the episode answered at least one question. That there IS a Jacob, also Locke is more of a threat to Ben than we have seen. Richard is the name of the guy you were talking about Matt. Yeah Richard hasn’t aged a day in 25 years, and also Ben doesn’t seem to have aged a day in about 16 years also. Maybe once you go past the electro fence you are fully exposed to the island and all of its effects. OSORIO i also noticed the killing people outside with that gas. i loved the episode though! but i have even more questions though!!!
Two things in particular me which caught my attention were: 1) I think Ben only sees Jacob and can’t hear him, which makes Ben furious. And John can hear him, but hasn’t seen him, also making Ben furious. Ben doesn’t want John to tell “the others” about this. 2) I wonder because Bens mother dies giving birth to him prematurely, and incurs the lifelong wrath of his father, and psychologically blames his mother for this, that Ben is responsible for taking the lives of the pregnant mothers. I know that’s a bit of a stretch, but you never know.
