Apologies in advance, I am completely new to this site and the creation of theories. I promised myself I never would speculate on the series but here I am! I also apologise if this theory has already come up, I havent had time to wade through all the inputs on this site yet! Has anyone thought perhaps the producers of the series want us to believe that the Season 3 finale contains a flashforward as opposed to a flashback?
Could it be that somehow (Im not intelligent enough to work out the details, perhaps I can have some help), either due to their actions, the island or both they are back where they started before the crash and their life changing experiences. They are now living out the alternative future if they had NOT carried out their actions from the past but with the knowledge now of what life could have been if they had?
Points:
Jack is situated back before his father died. He is finding it a hard life now, living with the fact he did not report his father and the knowledge it could have been a whole lot different if he had?
Kate is now happy with her life. (Hence her reaction to Jack) Although she now has to put up with Dwayne (“He will be wondering where I am”), she hasnt had to live the life on the run and lose the people that she had (mum, father, childhood sweetheart).
I am thinking the island for whatever reason is now showing them their alternative pasts/futures if they hadnt carried out the actions that eventually brought them to the island. I have absolutely no idea why, but hey, isnt that what you are all out there for! Perhaps the series in someway is demonstrating that in certain time lines, some people have it good, some bad, try to change it for the better, and you only end up making it worse for others. Sort of fits in with the whole numbers/Dharma initiative thing I guess.
Just another very small basic point, that perhaps we have all missed. I think it is safe to assume that the the title of the series ‘LOST’ isnt just a reference to the fact they are lost on an island but has a deeper meaning, perhaps referring to their confused and complicated lives? I know this is obvious but probably worth reitterating and keeping at the forefront of our minds, whilst we try to second guess the creators of this fantastic series.

HEY frozenreads, I POSTED A similar THEORY DUDE. I THINK IT COULD BE something ALONG THOSE LINES. BUT THERE IS definately MORE TO IT THAN THAT. SOME OF THE OTHER PEOPLE ON THIS SITE WILL TRY TO SHOOT YOU DOWN THOUGH. DON’T TAKE IT TO HEART, THEY JUST believe THAT THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO COULD possibly BE RIGHT. GOOD FIRST POST.
You never know. I posted some information about a Podcast which is available to listen to, down a few posts. Give it a listen to. The flashforwards really are flashforwards. However, you could be right.
Thanks for the responses, I guess we shall all find out come 2010! The answers will probably demonstrate why we are are on a web site guessing and not paid the thousands to be script writes on lost!
Good first post Frozen. I’ll give it a plus 1 for effort! :)
Definitely listen to the podcast that dab posted and read up on some of the theories here. Many of them are along the same lines as yours.
Namaste
The only thing I will say that may disprove this theory is the writers of the series has discredited time travel but to be honest I believe with the number of people trying to guess their writing, I think they have to discredit everything!
LOL! I agree frozenreads.
They have already reneged on the “no time travel” statement by saying Desmond did indeed “time travel” in a sense.
There are so many irons in the fire right now that they are bound to make errors and can’t explain everything.
Our one hope is that they have said that they will begin to really answer questions in season 4.
