I googled “Richard Alpert” and look what I came up with!”

I googled “Richard Alpert” and look what I came up with! If someone already posted this, please let me know:

This guy is a doctor, very well educated and deep into philosophy. He is not a believer in any particular religion but instead preaches harmony and what he calls “emergence”.

I am sure that the writers put this in for a reason. It has something to do with Richard’s role on the show. We know he doesn’t completely trust Ben. We know he is more in the know than say Juliette is. After all, he was the one who convinced her to go onto the island in the first place.

But remember that folder he hands Locke that reveals Sawyer’s reason for wanting to kill Cooper? That came from somewhere. Alpert is in the know. He has access to an unbelievable amount of information for being stuck out in the middle of some Island.

There are some people who can get off the Island if they want to and Alpert is one of them. So is Ben. Juliette and Jack and some of the others would do anything to get off the Island. Locke and Rose can’t get off the Island but if everyone was about to be “saved” they would probably sabatoge it. So would Hurley who after the bus starting incident believes that the Island stopped his bad luck streak.

I think that who wants to get off the Island and who wants to stay is going to become increasingly important. But getting back on topic, the fact that the real Richard Alpert is this enlightened Harvard professor philosopher goes back to the theme of everyone getting to their potential on the Island. Redemption etc.

Just think of Charlie - he did all this selfish stuff in the back story and then lets himself be killed in an act of complete selflessness. Desmund was the ultimate irresponsible guy and then is forced to take responsibility for the future because of the flashes. Jack is mad about his wife leaving him for another man but deals with it a lot better the second time around when he sees Kate having sex with Sawyer. Locke needs the closure of having the man who ruined his life die and he gets it.

I could go on and on about that. I think this Island really is about each individual character and them being able to reach their full potential as individuals. And the reason the fictional character “Richard Alpert” was given the name of this particular real life man alludes to this fact.

Yep. There was a theorist on this site by the name of les lemieux and he had the real Dr. Alpert covered. However, now you can only find his theories under the name “ichiro”. I suggest you look him up. Just about everything he posted was good… and, in my opinion, a good deal of it was accurate, especially stuff that pertained to Alpert and the “Book of the Dead”.

How can I search for a particular member’s posts? I’d love to read more about this.

Just a newbie trying to figure stuff out. :)

Oh, I hope I didn’t come off as one who was complaining… I think it’s cool you figured it out also! I just thought you’d be interested in his stuff.

Use the “Search Theories” feature to find “Book of the Dead” (go ahead and search titles only) and you should find him.
