“There is something or someone protecting them.”
— TheHolyStickman
Ok; Here’s a list on 7 things about the moth
Clues
Sayid comments that none of them should have survived the crash and hints that there is something or someone protecting them.
Michael jumps in very quickly when Hurley calls Jin Chinese, and says they’re korean. Strange??
Charlie goes in the caves to save Jack because he is alone. But if he managed to persuade his brother to go to L.A. then he wouldnt have been alone and Charlie would not have gone.
Non-Cluey stuff
The cocoon that Locke shows to Charlie is literally the cave. Locke says that he could help him out but then he would die. The moth needs to do it itself. So does charlie everyone else tries to help him out but he does himself in the end. Also if they had helped Charlie out. He wouldnt be strong enough to throw away his drugs.
Although through the looking glass is usually thought of as Charlies first and ultimate sacrifice to save someone. This was actually his first sacrifice when he went in to save Jack.
The Jack-Kate-Sawyer love triangle starts.
Locke acts like a father to Charlie, this does not always mean he is nice to him. He credits him when he’s good throwing away the drugs. And punishes him when hes bad. Punching him in the face. It will be interesting to see Lockes reaction to Charlies death.
Ok thats all I got TheHolyStickman q: ) with help from Danny Parsons

Nice observations Stickman. I definitely wanna see Locke’s reaction to Charlie’s death. I think its gonna be interesting. It would not even suprise me if Locke already knew what was going to happen somehow.
Clues
1) the producers (I think in the DVD commentary) says that they threw that exchange into the ep simply to reflect that the Losties were thinking the same things that fans were thinking at that time - the idea of “isn’t it wierd that we survived”.
2) I thought die to the recent confrontations between Michael and Jin/Sun that he quickly answers because in his own defense he feels guilty at being part of the misunderstanding (between him and Jin/Sun, not in calling them Chinese).
3) That’s the reflection that’s common in all of the Losties’ flashbacks. There is something that happens in their past that they are in a way re-living on the island.
Non Cluey stuff
1) Those two things actually contrast each other in the way you say. Locke chooses not to aid the moth, but with Charlie everyone does the opposite, they DO try to help him. But that isn’t the point of the episode or that exchange between Locke and Charlie. The point Locke is intenfing to make isn’t regarding his helping the moth. His point is that the moth NEEDS TO struggle in order to be strong enough to survive after hatching from its coccoon. Charlie in the same fashion is made to struggle with kicking his addiction, that’s why Locke gives him three opportunities to ask for his drugs back. Charlie’s struggle is lengthened through it, and that is what makes him strong enough in the end to throw the drugs in the fire.
4) Very excellent point, it’ll be VERY interesting seeing Locke’s reaction to Charlie’s death.
