blast door map
— Steve
these r some things taken of the blast door map and some observations.
The Millennium Development Goals are eight goals that 191 United Nations member states have agreed to try to achieve by the year 2015 (note the use of the numbers, 8 goals by 2015): 1.Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger 2.Achieve universal primary education 3.Promote gender equality and empower women 4.Reduce child mortality 5.Improve maternal health 6.Combat hiv/aids, malaria, and other diseases 7.Ensure environmental sustainability 8.Develop a global partnership for development
Goals 4, 5, 6 and 7 seem especially suited to the happenings in LOST… #4 could be related to the reason why the Others are so obsessed with children…are they using the children for research to reduce the child mortality rate? #5 - think about Ethan injecting Claire with who-knows-what in the Staff hatch. Are these injections part of an experiment to reduce the maternal mortality rate, or to improve maternal health and thus improve fetal health, which would, in turn, also reduce the infant mortality rate? #6 could be the reason why we see so many references to the DI vials of vaccine, and the word “quarantine” stenciled on so many doors. #7 could be a reference to the climatization experiments on the Polar bears…
“Primary Nexus of Cerberus Activity” Found just outside the hexagon, adjacent to the “Save yourself from Hell” notation, this phrase seems to indicate that the so-called Cerberus is seen here most often. In Greek mythology, Cerberus is called the “demon of the pit” or the monstrous three-headed “hound of Hades”. He guarded the gate to Hell and ensured that the dead could not leave and the living could not enter. Popular theory suggests that Cerberus is the Black Smoke Monster, the strange, ephemoral, mechanical-sounding entity that is responsible for killing the pilot of Oceanic Flight 815, and the beloved Mr. Eko. It is interesting that the highest levels of Cerberus sightings occur at the only known place where anyone can successfully escape from the Island. Is Cerberus “guarding” the entrance/exit to the Island? This is also the location known as “The Dark Territory”.
“Hic sunt dracones” Latin for “Here be dragons,” this phrase is written near the same place that says “primary nexus of cerberus activity” and could also be a reference to the Cerberus sightings. It is interesting to note that in mythology, Cerberus is sometimes said to have the head of dragon, or as many as 50 dragon heads.
“Known final resting place of Magnus Hanso/Black Rock” We all know that the “Black Rock” is the slave ship that Rousseau discovered beached in the jungle. Magnus Hanso is undoubtedly linked to Alvar Hanso somehow. A possible relative? Or just another hidden literary reference? “Magnus” may be a veiled reference to The Magus, a 1965 novel about a man stranded on a deserted island who gets sucked into the mind-bending “Godgame” of a mysterious recluse (source: EW.com).
“Geological Composition likely to cause Magnetic Interference with Weather Project” Here we have more references to the magnetic properties of the Island, as well as references to the meteorological studies. Perhaps some form of the word “geological” makes up the “G” in D.I.H.G.? Are magnetic interferences partially responsible for the plane crashes? What is the geological composition of this area that causes the problem? Could it be high concentrations of metal?
“X4, Y8, Z15” Aside from the obvious references to Hurley’s Numbers, these are also airline codes. Z4 is also a reference to the first computer in the world to actually be sold, in 1950. X, Y, and Z also are commonly used to describe a location in 3D space. These numbers could reference a location on the island, but are pretty much useless without an origin, direction, and units.
“Sursum corda” The Sursum Corda (Latin for “Lift up your hearts”) is the opening dialogue to the Preface of the Eucharistic Prayer in the ancient liturgies of the Christian Church, dating back to at least the sixth century AD. While there are some minor deviations in English, the dialogue typically runs as follows: Priest: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Priest: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them to the Lord. The dialogue is recorded in the earliest missals of the Christian Church, and is a standard element in Roman Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran, United Methodist, and other denominations.
It is interesting that this phrase is listed on the blast door map three times. The number three is often considered to have Holy connotations (i.e. The Holy Trinity).
This phrase also appears at the nothernmost point of the blast door map, and is eerily reminiscent of the phrase revealed on Mr. Eko’s so-called “Jesus Stick” in Episode 3x06 (“I Do”). After Mr. Eko’s death, Locke retrieved the stick to use as a marker for Mr. Eko’s grave. As he was pounding the stick into the ground, he was surprised to notice the inscription “Lift up your eyes and look north”. This phrase is found at two places within the Holy Bible: Genesis 13:14 and Ezekiel 8:5. Interestingly, Mr. Eko’s stick says this phrase is from John 3:05, but it is not. John 3:05 says: “Jesus answered, ‘I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.’”
One Last Thing: The blast door map looks very similer to Ba-Gua, an energy map based on the concepts of Yin-Yang, the 8 Trigarms of the I-Ching and the theory of the Five Elements. It is a mystical representation of all of the various combinations of Yin-Yang energy Go to http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v151/punkguyky/bagua-hatchmap.jpg to see this.
is there any site that has a better picture?bigger maybe?
you seem to have decided that the goals of the dharma initiative are the same as those of the others……
Steve, great post good research + 1 form me mate well done.
Where are all the text descriptions coming from (the text overlay on the picture) ? Most of the text in this scene is impossible to read (on my small screen anyway) ?
Great post!
interesting post
Could somebody please explain about the picture on the blast door… how the text on it was obtained ? Im guessing someone took the time to pause the dvd at the right moment then zoom in and read all the scribbles written on it… and translate them ? lol
I ask because having watched the scene a few times and trying to make sense of it myself… theres not much detail and it seems impossible to read all the scribbles !
Im new to this site and am loving all the amazing theories… especially this one… but i am just curious about the validity of the translations from the blast door.
Can anybody shed some light on this ?
katrina i was referring to all the scribbles in general not just the latin.
I just done a google search and found a big diagram without the text overlay and it is alot clearer (than my tv lol)…
There is certainly text on the image that is readable but some sections seem impossible to make out ! Im just curious who ‘translated’ all the scribbles and if the members on this board are confident that the translations are accurate ?
As i said im a noob here this is the first lost type site i have visited so if the answer is obvious i apoligise ! lol
Assuming it is accurately translated (and based on this theory) then i have to say that the lost producers have put alot of thought into this thing ! Im extremely impressed !
Im going to choose to believe the translations are accurate simply because it all kinda makes sense lol … so +1 for this theory… great post !
I would still love to know for sure if anyone can say with confidence that they are accurate though :-)
(I really can’t wait for series 4 this getting really, really interesting !)
since the blast door map was painted by Kelvin and Razinsky, what does that say about them?
we never met Razinsky, but Kelvin never struck me asa philosopher. he was former military. steve: any thoughts?
