ok lets think…the plane crashed in 2004 then about 90-95 days pass. they get off the island. but its still 2004. now i think tim eon the ilsand just moves slower than in real life. so i think that somehow 3 years had passed in real life within the 90 days that they were on the island. i mean why would jack be telling kate that they need to go back and making such a fuss about it if its been 3 years. wouldnt he have aleady complained enough or possibly found the islnad within 3 years? yes so as soon as he got home he grew a beard quickly because of the passed time. but i think that he finds out that his dad didnt really die when the plane crash and he never was in the casket. but over the 3 years his dad really did die. and jack is so distraught and poppin pills and being an alcohaulic cus he thinks that if he goes back to the island he could regain the last 3 years of his life and find out why his father had faked his death. as for the whos in the casket i do believe that it is christian sheperd. and thats why jack was making the comments about his father still being alive…because he cant accept the fact that hes dead and why wud he be bringing his dead father up after he hasnt been mentioned for all this time? just for wut reason? thats why what i say could be possible. and really not that far fetched if you could buy into the fact that on the island time moves slower.
I like the explaination of the beard, and that after three years had passed he was still no closer to finding the island, nor giving up. I don’t know how I feel about your theory on his father though. There’s still a part of me that thinks Christian is Jacob (or at least plays more of a major role on the island). I would like to think there was importance behind Jack mentioning his father, not that it was just delusion.
I’ve thought all along that Christian faked his death, possibly by use of the spider virus. I think he’s an associate of DHARMA and faked dying to get Jack to Australia and on flight 815…and to the island. I think that’s why the coffin was empty when Jack found it in the caves. BUT, the writers have said that Christian is DEAD. So my question is, if the writers have said that he is dead, why bring him up again in the finale? Because Christian is not dead, and the writers released a foiler. They have been known to release foilers, opposed to spoilers, to throw people off. I think Jack is freaking out because after being “rescued” he learns the truth about his father’s involvement and that he was responsible for Jack being tossed on the island. There must be other reasons for Jack’s behavior as well, but i think that’s one of them. Great post.

Interesting theory about time moving slower. I had wondered why don’t more of the men have beards. I assumed they all shaved with Dharma shaving kits or something. Why would anyone shave everyday when stuck on an island. If you could, you might shave every once and awhile, but not everyday.
I’m thinking that the beard is a result of a couple of wayward months nothing more nothing less. And on Christians fake death do you not think that jack would have to identify the body before taking out of Australia. Lastly with regard to time on the island I once again have to disagree which upsets me because I have made loads of posts that are based on that fact The main reasons I have to disagree is Penny she has aged accordingly and seems to have been searching for desmond for ever and the live feed from Juliette’s Sister seemed spot on.
