Dont open it!!
There have been so many thoughts and theories about who was in the coffin that Jack attended (and only Jack). I have no idea who was in the coffin. What I do know for now is that the lost producers are using the Schrodinger’s Cat theory in this situation (So Kudo’s to all that researched this in the past). If Jack opens the coffin and actually views the cat (the person), he would seal the fate of that person. By not opening the coffin, the person is alive and dead at the same time (Schrodinger’s Cat). One point (That I hate to debate now..lol) is the fact that Jack says, “Your not dead” before he pops his pill….or almost at the same time he pops his pill. This is a hint by the producers. It seems to me as if they are throwing the Schrodinger’s Cat theory in our face. They are making this easy…but many still beat me up over it. I wont go into detail for those that do not know what Schrodinger’s Cat theory is….it has been posted many times. Just check under the most interesting theories.

Thanks alternatedestiny!!
he says “damn it” because he has no more pills, unless someone has the audio sample
Please go to the most commented section…this was a long..long…debate… I dont want to even go there….really..lol. I think that the post in the most commented section says, “Dammit or Your not dead” as a headline. It was a really long debate Charaldo. Check it out if u feel like it.
i reviewed it, he just says dammit
He says both. Check out the long debate. I do not want to create a new debate. Check under most commented…PLEASE, this debate really sucked. For those that were not there you have no idea how long the debate was of what was said at the moment with the coffin and the pill. So check out the old posts under most commented.
I don’t know who’s been beating you up over this theory, but I think you’re right, that it IS an obvious parallel that the writers have thrown into our faces. The problem I have with it is that it doesn’t necessarily have a literal connotation to it. It’s a psycological issue as well, and with Jack’s apparent state of mind (he’s drugged up and suicidal) that shouldn’t be a surprise at all. Psycologically, in Jack’s febble mind, if he doesn’t open the coffin he doesn’t see the person dead, meaning he doesn’t have to accept or face the fact that the person is dead. It’s a matter of denial. The “fate” ordeal has to do with what Jack says at the end, that he wants to go back to the island to change the way things turned out. But by then, Jack is so diluted that it’s difficult to trust anything he says. Does that mean it’s not true? No.
I would agree that Jack was definitely diluted. Him being so drugged also makes it hard to simply beleive that his father is alive also. The writers did this on purpose to keep us guessing.
He says Dammit. I’m sure he does. I didn’t even realise there was any debate about it
