Okay … so I don’t have cable. All season two and three episodes were taped for me by a friend, and I actually have missed a lot from season two, and a few episodes from season three.
So y’all have to keep this in mind, and help me out here, ‘cause I am at a disadvantage. Don’t be mean if my theory doesn’t exactly work perfectly.
I was watching the Bonus Features on the season one DVD and it showed the original script for the pilot. We all know they originally wanted Michael Keaton to play Jack, and for Keaton’s character to only be a guest star and die in the second half of the pilot episode.
This is the only thing I can think of that screws up my theory. But, anyway, my theory is: On the first page of the script they showed in the Bonus Features, Jack woke up away from the rest of the survivors. Initially, Jack woke up on the beach, coughing up water, and the wreckage from the plane was off in the jungle. (They switched it for visual purposes.)
So Jack was always meant to have been separate from the plane. And this bugs me no end, because he really should have ended up near Rose, as they were seated so close to each other.
So … why was Jack always intended to be so far from the group? I mean, yeah, okay, we COULD just attribute this to the dramatic concept of having the hero wake up alone, to bring focus on the character.
But what about that one quote (from an episode I unfortunately missed): “One who walks among us is not one of us” (or whatever)?
I think Jack may have been found by the Others (or the Smoke Monster) and tampered with somehow. Just some quick tweak to his memories or body or something that happened right before he woke up. Then they left him in the jungle and he woke up soon after.
And I think this may end up being a major thing in the coming seasons. Like, a plot device. Maybe Jack will end up having a connection to the Others or Jacob, and this will lead to dramatic/violent confrontations with Locke.
What do y’all think? I’d love to see responses. (And please don’t give me negative ratings!) :o)

Sorry you don’t have cable, but I didn’t buy the DVD’s so didn’t know about Michael Keaton or that the plane crash was switched to the beach with Jack being separate both times! I’ve commented before and still believe there is something strange about Jack being so far from the plane and they seemed to make such a point of it zeroing on his eyes waking up. I’m not sure if anyone had time to get to him before he woke up and don’t really agree with that theory, but gave you a 1+ because I think you’re on the right path with Jack being different from the others on the plane. I’m leaning toward it’s a Jack do over. It’s not his first time on the island. But who knows, we could all be wrong!! Good work!
I like this a lot Jack waking up away from the group is a clear clue as to what happened there. This could be a good reason. +1 although I wouldn’t put money on it, Its still a very good post
I think you may be right about what is coming up for Jack in the next season! The writers have not worked Jack’s tattoos into the storyline yet, so you could be right about that! Nice post! +1
Guys come on - it was a plane crash. Do u really think they’d all land in the order of where they were sitting? Me and a friend were once hit by a car doing 20mph - while she ended up on the bonnet, I ended up 20 metres down the road. Had I been taken and tampered with by some mysterious Others? I dont think so! It was a plane crash for God’s sake! As for zooming in on his eye, dont they do that in every episode?
