The Damn Smoke Machine Gets Outta Hand Again

I know this has been discussed before but I would like to bring it back to the public domain with a light twist to it.

The footage above is from the pilot and has been unedited. You can clearly see an object swoop down over the engine before it explodes, A common argument for this is that the smoke monster swooped down and made the engine explode.
I have a different view of this, The engine exploded simply because the guy was sucked into it there is clearly no question about that.I think the smoke was there to collect the soul of the guy that was sucked into the engine. The good smoke. I think both smokeys do the same job but one forcibly takes souls and the other collects from the dieing, sorta like a heaven and hell white versus dark sorta thing.
Could this be the clue from the Pilot that we have missed?
Its a bit mixed up I know just thought I would share these thoughts
Addition
Could It be said that Ecko’s Soul was ready for rest yet his body was fighting for survival hence ‘the soul collector’ needing to intervene, could this be said about the Pilot also ?
That’s cool Sleepz, I like how they slow it down but I didn’t see anyone being sucked in to the engine.
I like the idea of a good and bad smokey. Would Smokey be the good one while Sandy is the bad one? Lol.
Yeah lets call smokey, erm Danny……………………………
i think that i read or seen some where bout this and the producers said it was some edting gone bad
Well did you ever think that maybe it was parts of the inside of the plane since they did just crash. Those moving black things are all the way through that scene.
I like a new spin to this observation, I had it written of as bad special effects or a production mistake, couldn“t see the point for smokey to destroy the engine, as have been posted here earlier. But the soulcollectning is a interesting view. I give it 1+
VoodooBob - Firstly I agree Voodoo these things are fying around several times on the plane scenes and if the just hit the floor i would be thinking it was plane debris, but they appear to move as if controlled swooping down as if collecting something, there were many bodies hence many souls to collect during these scenes.
Louai - as above these things occur to many times in these scenes to be production errors, I mean this was the Pilot do you not think these things would have been checked and checked again before putting out there
sleepz, very interesting idea—and I think it might fit with Prof’s post about the Ferryman—as one important ferryman figure in mythology is Charon who has to transport the living across the river Styx to Hades. It sounds like what you are suggesting the good smoke monster (“Charry”?) does.
With Eko I think the fact that he refuses to believe that he could have done anything differently or that he needs forgivess is key to what happens to him.
1+ Sleepz— Good theory, it would explain quite alot if there was a good smokey and a bad smokey collecting souls. And I agree there would be no production errors in the Pilot. They were trying to sell the show at that point, so they would be on their toes. Good work!!!!
I like it, it builds on my theory below. It could explain that scene in the pilot.

can we see evidence of the smoke in other dying scenes? boone?shannon?charlie?the marshal?
we will have to look more closely good point shell.
i had never realised this before. But you clearly see the black round thing, come down and swoop just above the engine before darting up again. it’s not coincidence. Maybe, Gary troup (the man who got sucked in the engine) is not dead at all. Maybe the smoke monster saved him just in time. I don’t know, i’m putting it out there
sleepz! Good catch!
If the writers were correct about the clue in the Pilot episode, this HAS to be it! The evidence of the smoke is apparent!
Awsome find!
+1 and I hope it holds some relevance and inst dismissed as some digital flaw. The guy who found this must have been watching the episode in slow-mo, because it doesn’t really show up at all normal speed on DVD, it only showed when I slowed it down.
This is crazy. I can’t believe someone actually caught that! So does this officially put to rest the whole “Smokey can’t go on the beach” theory (there were a few theories like that, right? I thought there were).
If it’s on the DVD, this has to be the clue they were talking about, right?
This is a great line of thinking.. I really like the angle that there might be multiple smoke entities. This idea makes possible a multitude of possibilities. Good v Bad Light v Dark Damnation v Salvation Man made v Spirit Love v Hate ( the Love Monster verses the Hate Monster) sounds like a Bad Godzilla movie but it would make for an interesting conflict!
Good thoughts sleepz. This would definitely explain the smoke monsters erratic behaviour at times.
sleepz: I still refuse to call Cerebus by the name of Sandy or Danny or Kanickie or Charry or Chachie or Joannie… but I really like this theory. Now I’ve got a whole load of alternatives and implications to bend my mind around.
+1 bro
WOW, I just posted your find over at LOST- TV Forums and they nearly ate me alive. Turns out this is actually old news, and they have theorized the heck out of it.
Heres my post and their responses with some links to the theories they had on this scene.

The idea of a good and bad smokey is interesting.
The black smoke during the engine explosion is, however, according to lostpedia just an artifact of poor CGI effects:

Check Bloopers and coninuity errors.
Very interesting sleepz:)
Sorry sleepz, but this was debunked by the producers.
Do we seriously believe them, would they tell us if this was the case. You are probably correct guys I just struggle to believe that they would make this sorta error in a Pilot this big ????
It is debunked on lostpedia.
sleepz: what was that movie starring Cheryl Ladd where they went in to victims of people involved in a plane crash and plucked them out just before they died?
“I think the smoke was there to collect the soul of the guy” - I think that is a very intriguing idea. Why did some people black out right before the crash (Jack) while others (Kate) didn’t?
