LOST-Theories.com

Hello my beloved fellow losties! This is my first theory, give me some sweet feedback to see if I’m on the right track. and sorry about my name, ill come up with a better one shortly!

Right! It all starts with the key concept of Lost. I think it is not in fact the dharma initiative or time travel, but the island itself. The others are just red herrings, leading us away from the actual…concept. The Key is just the island and its powers. The Dharma initiative wanted to use these powers for the good of science, the hostiles want it for personal gain and evil. Our Favourite Losties are there for redemption, and the island kills them when they do what they have to do (charlie, ana lucia, boone, shannon, eko etc.)

Heres where it gets Tricky. The Dharma initiative worked along side the islands plans, and did not create smokie, but knew about him, (hence the fence, making sure that the dharma initiative is safe.) And then come the hostiles. They are, if you like, the anti-redemption. They try and get people like Jack and Locke and use them for their own means, knowing what they can be played on and HOW to use them, and want to make sure that the lost people dont find themselves, and that would make it impossible to use them, as smokie would just kill them, knowing they have reached their purpose. Jacob works as the anti-monster, and he is the one that appears as the hallucinations seperate to Smokie, or the ones that try and lead the characters into evil (Ekos brother whom i cant spell, who tried and made eko hang on to his past.) and also Bens mum, to get Ben to get rid of the Dharma initiative.

And so Locke is at the moment not following the island, he just thinks he is! So he is unwittingly being led into Jacobs hands as a member of the hostiles, and hence the “help me.”

Alternatively, Locke is the key to the island and the two opposing sides are fighting for him!

Now that i think about it, this is not just a completely off-the-wall theory! It actually explains alot. Like why Locke always seems to get mixed messages from the island, like in the first season when he in turn saw something marvelous and shocking in the monster. It also explains why Ben would put himself on the line and infiltrate the losties camp, and why Walt appeared to Locke-ironically, Jacob did help him!

So, to conclude, lost is not about the time space continuum, or the dharma initiative, or crap like that. It is a beautiful, mysterious and often absolutely barmy tale of redemption

Namaste and all that!

P.S- sorry for the atrocious layout. if someone can portray this theory better than me go ahead!

Thoughts please!

I agree that the island is really the central character in the show. But I disagree with you about Locke. Locke’s journey on the island in my opinion has been one of self-awareness and self-discovery. There is a scene in season 1 where Locke and Boone are showing Walt how to throw knives. Michael sees this and gets pissed but Locke says that “As long as we’re here I think Walt should be able to realize his potential”. Something Locke and Boone were learning for themselves. Well as we have seen since both Walt and Locke seem to be slowly realizing their potential. Locke just deviated from the path a bit. I really think that when Walt appeared to Locke while he was in the ditch that it really was Walt. I really really hope Walt returns in season 4 as I would LOVE a Walt falshback to see what he has been up to. As he stood above Locke and told him he had work to do he just seemed wise beyond his years.

TMBTC: I think we’re definitely going to see a re-appearance of Walt in Season 4 (or maybe 5). i have no info or theory to back this up … just a hunch. I look forward to it, too.

Magician: I’m curious about one thing you said. You said that the Losties are there for redemption. I tend to agree . . since everyone who survived the crash came to the island with a deep regret about something. But you go on to say that the island kills them once they do what they have to do to get redemption. You mention Charlie, Ana Lucia, Boone, Shannon and Eko as examples. Charlie, I understand, but the others that you mention: what did they do to get any kind of redemption?? Because especially with Ana Lucia and Shannon, I don’t see how they earned redemption.

I was full on board the Locke-is-the-greatest-character ship, until he conned (and I do hold to that term, “con”, LOL) Sawyer into killing his father. As much as I think Sawyer had the right to go after Cooper, his parents were also to blame. Sawyer’s mother choose to cheat, and his father apparently wasn’t in the sanest of conditions if he ends up commiting murder-suicide. I think Locke had more right to kill Cooper, he got your kidney for God’s sake! But Locke was too chicken-$hit to “pull the trigger”. Not that I would ever want someone to kill someone else. I would’ve been more satisfied if he had let Cooper free, or if he simply ignored the request and searched for answers on his own.

    Ferris,

I agree with your comment on redemption. Everyone on the island needs it, but so far, very few have earned or received it. I would agree, with the exception of Charlie, the Losties who have died on the island didn’t have a chance to make a difference, or try and change something for the better. (I think Eko did apologize to Ben for something, but, in my opinion, his story was far from over, and his early demise, via the smoke monster was a disappointment.)

    crbolosan,

Yes! I’m right there with you on Locke. I loved his character until season 3 - but now I’m angry at him for what he did to Sawyer - that was just wrong! I don’t understand it, and I never will. And poor Naomi, what was that all about? Did she really deserve to die?

    magic,

The island is interesting for sure - but I still think the story revolves around the characters and their struggles.

Cheers for your fantastic feedback! It was actually fully great, which i didnt expect, so Thanks. However, I am convinced of my theory and will try and justify it some more, like the stubborn sod I am :)

Ferris-I would LOVE to see more of Walt as well. But anyhu…

Ana-Lucia didnt shoot Ben, which was her redemption! remember, she shot up the dude in her flashback, and it was eating her up.

Shannon just stopped being a bitch pretty much. And maybe getting to know Sayid helpt- she framed him as a terrorist at the airport!

crbolosan-I fully agree! It just seemed so out of character, which is what led me to thinking about this theory!

And Eko dying was just ridiculous. He had so much potential! I mean, he got out of the shadow of his brother, but even so… it seemed so pointless and cruel! I would have liked to see the flashback in London. It would have sweet if he had have met Charlie!

Cheers for your comments and critique! your all great!

Magic I look forward to further justification. Good post I’m not sure on some of the details though
