Was the flash-forward some sort of alternate timeline that would exist if Jack had never turned his father in … and thus never been on flight 815? If so, why did he have a Gold Card at the end of the finale?

I don’t know about you guys, but I was pretty pissed when the finale turned out to be a flash-forward. I mean, as annoying as Jack as been getting, I still don’t want him to turn into a creepy, bearded boozer! So I’m pleased that people have theories about this flash-forward that kind of make Jack less crazy … but I don’t really understand them. Can someone explain?
Besides my own questions — like, (1) was Jack just so plastered that he forgot his dad was dead, or was Christian alive in the future, and (2) why was the coffin so small if it was supposed to be the body of a man, etc. — many people have left such weird theories about the finale — and how it ties into the pilot episodes and the whole show in general — that I am now so freaking confused that I seriously need some help from y’all or I’m gunna get terminal migraines or something.
Here are a few comments that I’ve found here and there. I’m sorry that I don’t remember who left them.
- “So many people were recognizing Jack as ‘that hero,’ but they never say what he did. … I think it could be referring to something more ‘heroic,’ [than simply rescuing car crash victims].”
(Totally makes sense to me. But I don’t think that helping to rescue 40 people off a desert island would give him lasting national notoriety, either. What could it really be?)
- “We never see who the woman in the car crash was, but when Jack saw her son, he almost seemed to have some sort of connection with him…Maybe the woman in the car was someone from the island?”
(Again, totally plausible. Makes sense. I’ve heard that the kid looked a lot like Ethan — gag me — but I’ve also seen people suggest he was Aaron, which would be awesome, except then why would Claire not know who Jack was when she saw him on the bridge and he pulled her from the wreckage? Did she just not recognize him with the hideous facial hair, or had she forgotten all about him somehow, or … maybe hadn’t met him yet? I don’t know!!!)
- “Or… is it not possible that the reason the woman and child (whoever they are) were in the crash in the first place was simply due to the fact that Jack was there. i.e on the bridge and not on the island, where he was ‘supposed’ to be?”
(OMG … getting so confused. Would this mean that the flash-forward was really some sort of alternate timeline that would exist if Jack had never turned his father in, thus never had to fetch Christian’s body from Australia, thus never been on flight 815, thus never gone to the island? If so, why did he have a Gold Card from Oceanic? That card seems to signify that the airline was trying to make it up to the passengers for getting them stranded, so … is this above theory garbage, or did Jack find out that he’d never turned his father in or something as soon as he got back from the island? So not able to process this!)
- “I’ve watched episode 1 a few times now and I’m convinced that we are not watching Jack’s (and possibly Kate and Sawyer’s) first time on the island.”
(How can you be “convinced” of this, dude? What clues, besides the rumored scar on Jack’s forehead, exist to support this? I find this theory absolutely entertaining and exciting, but I can’t even begin to think up justification for it. Besides the scar, I mean. The scar is definitely cool. I’m going to have to look for it. But, like, is it even visible in other episodes of Season 1? And if it were Jack’s second time on the island, does that mean it’s everybody’s second time, too? Does that mean that Jack got a Gold Card for some other reason than being stranded on the island — maybe for the “heroic” thing everyone alluded to in the finale that was totally unrelated to the plane crash that hadn’t happened yet. And maybe Kate helped him and got one, too? I just don’t know exactly how to plot it all out to have it make sense. But, then again, it’s hard to make anything on this show make sense. So, people, please lend me your brains and we can pick through them together!)
- “I’m not so convinced that he wasn’t on the plane but I think it’s a possibility…. ”
(How is that a possibility if we saw Jack sitting across from Rose during the crash? Was this some other crash, or what? Like, the first crash, or the proposed second one? And was Jack the only character to wake up not on the beach in the pilot? Why? Wouldn’t he have ended up near Rose, as they were sitting next to each other?)
Okay … I’m done. Hope to read your responses soon! SOOO glad I found this site yesterday! Yay! :o)

Welcome to the site faliah. Take some time to read up on the theories posted here. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Faliah, I agree with Sham and although this site may not be able to answer your questions there are some theories here that give it a damn good try. NIce to see a new visitor that dosn’t enter the forum with a theory that reads ‘I have all the answers- Its clones’
