I know this is prologue, but I love the Atlantis theories, and I think this might help them a little.

Is the island based on the Delos of Greek myth?

Apollo, who may be depicted by the 4-toed colossus, was born on Delos, an island on which Zeus decreed no one would be born—hence Juliet—or die—hence Alpert, and the other timeless Others, if there are any.

(Alpert recruited Juliet and gave her the nepenthe drug — again, the Greeks.)

There were three temples there, and swans were said to surround it (like the Swan Station’s magnetic field).

Finally, Delos was said to have floated, submerged and emerged from the sea, an idea that might help with some of the geographic mysteries.

I know this is prologue, but I love the Atlantis theories, and I think this might help them a little.

pabodie: I’d like to read up on Delos, do you have a good link you can add to your theory?

I love reading about Atlantis too. Not sure that’s what is going on in Lost, but the thought of an island mass with the ability to submerge like a submarine to cloak itself and then surface when it needed to receive supplies…or send an outgoing transmission every 108 minutes…would be a neat idea.

pabodie: i also wondered if the 4-toed colossus had any link with the 4-toed statue.

And I came to the conclusion that there is one MAJOR difference: The collossus had originally 5 toes, but one was broken off. The 4-toed statute in Lost has 4 toes BY DESIGN.

    Right, xiv.

    Interesting ideas there, though.

one of the better atlantis suggestions. Who knows where this show is going? But, some people have died on the island.

pabodie: Like stip, I too am fascinated by Atlantis. So thanks for the links!

I also think this is one of the better Atlantis theories I’ve read.

xiv and Prof: Are we sure our Four toed statue is four toed by design? Do we have proof of that? I thought it was a ruin, therefore, it could have been missing one toe.

kat: Thanks for the link. It definitely does look like it was designed as a four toed statue.

4 toes. who knows why only 4 toes.

How many fingers am I holding up?

Let’s assume the completed statue had four fingers as well.

We would see some of the numbers of the equation.

    4 toes

    2 feet = 8 toes

    All digits together = 16

    Just a thought.

Anyway, my point was that the statue is of Apollo and always had 4 toes. I meant “colossus” in the generic sense. I thought I had read that Apollo and other Greek gods were often depicted with 4 toes, but now I cannot find any solid source for this (anyone have an idea? Seems like this is a meme perpetuated by Lost fans based on Lost fans, but not scholarship).

I agree that the statue we see was built with four toes pabodie. Even if one had brken off we would see where it had been.
