Gads, I think I’m perfecting this “part two” business. Maybe eventually I’ll become bright enough to just post one whole theory to begin with. (sigh) Oh well.
So I’ve been kicking this idea around mostly in comments but I’d really like to see what people think about it.
We didn’t get to see John’s farewell to Jack. Could they have crafted some kind of plan that they are even now working on together?
Might John have been privy to Ben’s plan for Juliet, and might he have made Jack privy to it?
Might Ben’s ultimate goal be something that John doesn’t want (causing people to have to leave the island or otherwise revealing the island to the world), so John has struck a deal to help Jack and the other survivors get off the island as long as Jack does something that prevents people from asking about the people who didn’t come back (telling the world John and others who want to stay are dead, for example, and selling the idea that it’s a very dangerous yet otherwise ordinary island)?
Will the plot evolve in such a way as to make everyone think John and Jack are at odds only to reveal at the last moment that they were in it together all along, symbolizing the power of science and faith cooperating rather than fighting with one another?
Did Jack take the stones from the corpses in the cave, and if he did, will they play a major role in the end of the show, proving that the writers had in mind where the plot was going since the beginning?
Just questions that are flying around in my own feeble brain. Please tell me what y’all think!

Prof,
I like your ideas and I have always thought Jack and John are both playing 5 moves ahead of everyone else.
(John is blowing stuff up because I think Dr. Marv told Locke to do so otherwise these people are going to take over the world. Jack doesn’t trust Ben and I think he’s using Juliet to get what he wants. What that is I don’t know).
But TPTB have made it clear that they are going to leave us in shock and the game will change completely after this season.
You theory gives us a closed ending that leaves us feeling good about our heroes.
I firmly believe we are going to end up with an “Empire Strikes Back”-esque ending. We won’t know what to feel after the end of season three.
It will give the writers more conflict to work out and make us come back for more in the fall of 2008.
Well, all of the “endings” I’ve been talking about are my thoughts regarding how the entire series might end. As for the end of this season, I couldn’t agree more with your thoughts.
I love this idea that Jack and Locke may have formed an alliance that we the viewers are unaware of. That would be awesome, if the power of science and faith were to come together in such a way. Perhaps, this is what will change the equation! Who knows! By the way, ProfO, if you are not bright enough, then that would make me brain dead I guess. You make me think with the “theories” you post and I am greatful for that!
You are most kind, dabiatchishere. :-)
Whoa, Prof, you have 51 theories up, more than any other user! No wonder I have a hard time keeping up. But, it’s a great service to all of us theorists on here.
I think you’re on to something about the ultimate, season 4 or 5 ending, focusing on showing that there’s a false boundary between Locke and Jack, faith and science.
And I do think it’s key that we didn’t see Locke and Jack’s farewell scene. Maybe, at this still early point in the game, it was full of conflict and not a mutual secret plan (plus, weren’t they under surveillance?). Maybe it confirmed Jack’s belief that he had to go it alone, and try to play passive with the crazy Others. This way, the resolution between them is still to be had, but at a later point in the plot.
I got the impression that Jack’s place was being watched, but not monitored for sound.
Also… I’ve been thinking that perhaps Jack lied to Juliet about what he saw in her eyes when the sub blew up. He told her what he thought he should have seen. But when he didn’t see that in her eyes, he knew she knew another way off the island. So he also knew he was being had. And now he’s playing along to see what she’s up to.
And… thanks for the compliment. But you know the real reason I have so many theories posted here is because I have so many of these dag-blamed two-parters! Well, that and I get quite a bit of inspiration from all the other posters here, including you and dabiatchishere. This is a great online community and in my experience that’s rare.
