important:this will sone be rewritten because I have changed my views a bit. I do not believe that jacks dad was really seen in the first few episode and was in fact the black smoke(read Mr. Smokey Pants for more). But I still believe that jack’s dad is alive.)
I may get some things wrong because I don’t remember everything and I can’t remember all the details that lead me to believe what I do now, but I honestly think that Jack’s Dad isn’t dead. In the first few episodes we soon realized that Jack was on the plane to bring his fathers body home after his heart attack. Jack thinks he sees his father in different places, and he may in fact have. It’s hard to sort who’s really seeing who because we have seen hallucinations time and tome again, an example of that being Mr. Echo’s brother, and Hurleys imaginary friend Dave. I think a few others as well but I can’t remember at the moment. Anyways the point is it is hard to tell weather all these hallucinations are real or not. Jack finds his Dad’s Casket in the cave and it is empty. The only explanation is that while falling though the air the body fell out while in midair or something like that, but what is he wasn’t in the casket to begin with? I know this theory isn’t well supported but I started to wonder if maybe this great man the others speak of is Jack’s Dad. The only thing to make me think this is because He has been seen in so many people’s memories and as we’ve seen he is not only Jack’ father but Claire’s as well. Maybe he picked people to be on the plane and in his own twisted way got some of them to get on the plane. In one episode we see that the fortune teller, who was so insistent on sending Claire to L.A. because the only one other couple was allowed to raise her baby, was actually a con. At least that is what he told Mr. Echo. A preconceived notion I had, as I’m sure many did, was that the Fortune teller knew the plane was going to crash and she would survive on it and therefore sent her on the plane in search of false hope, thus stuck on an Island and forced to raise the baby herself. Yet later when I found out that the fortune teller was a fraud I was convinced that someone payed him to do it. Weather is be Jack’s Dad or not someone is behind it and purposely choose these people, almost as is it were an experiment.
A side theory would be that the hallucination that people see when they see a dead loved one walking around is actually the black smoke. I own the DVD seasons one and two and when you slow down the scene where Mr. Echo sees is and isn’t afraid those flashes you see are actually the memories he has of people through out the episode. I think it somewhat decides who should die based on is they have unfinished business or not, especially sense is comes back and kills him later.

I like the way you think hah, i totally agree with you, like you I own seasons one and two and also recall seing the faces in the black smoke when mr eko is facing it you can see, uhh… i believe yemmi and the virgin mary. i think this is pretty darn plausable
i like this, jacks dad must be important - as he links with sawyer (in the bar) claire (father) ana lucia (goes to the house)
exactly what I said.
I personally think this theory is over-reaching. If it’s easier to explain certain events in a simpler way, chances are the simplest way is correct.
Christian’s body wasn’t in the casket. It could have simply fallen out while it was falling from the plane. It could have also stayed behind in Australia or hundreds of other things. The important thing here is that it doesn’t do much to support the theory that he is important on the island.
Christian was seen on the island. So were a horse seen by Kate and a cat from Sayid’s past. It would be illogical to assume he is somehow different.
Christian appears in many people’s flashbacks and therefore must be important. This one is a bit of a statistical oversight. It is possible to have come into contact with the most characters on the show simply by being located at the bottleneck where the 815 survivors were guaranteed to have been before the crash. Sydney, Australia; the city from which 815 was departing. Christian happened to be there, so as a minor character, it would put him into contact with more main characters than minor characters located elsewhere.
I have held this belief myslef since that episode. And no one supports me. The ammo I use against the nay-sayers I now give to you. If the Island can heal Locke’s paralyisis, AND heal Rose’s fatal cancer, AND bring Charlie back from death after being hung from a tree for minutes. AND bring Claire’s unborn fetus back from death by a single bite of island fruit. Don’t you think it is possible that a recently deceased body could be resusitated, especially one so deeply connected to so many survivors……..Thanks for the great theory!!
I agree with you thevickers I think it is plaussible that it could happen. I started thinking more about the ghost apearances though and I kind of think that he might have been a ghost but people who are still alive have been seen before on the island that wen’t there, hence when shannon and Sayid see Walt…we know he’s still alive and we know that is not him because the water is coming out of his mouth. Forget about his special powers I don’t think that has anything to do with being in two places at once, at least not that I’ve seen. I think that is is very possile and I know a ton of people who think the same thing so your not the only one. And to WildConnclusions…sence when has anything we have seen on lost been simple….? it hasn’t and things are just getting more complicated…oh and I think I know what’s up with the animals appearing and the ghosts…you should sheck out my other theory on the black smoke. A lot of people believe this theory as well.
And of course, in the season finale, when we’re seeing Jack in the future, he makes reference to his father. When the doctor accuses him of being drunk, he says something like “Bring my father down here and if he’s not drunker than me…” I guess you could argue he is metaphorically speaking, but his prescriptions are also filled out by his father. Someone mentioned these could have been forged. But I believe he’s alive.
Either that or that vision of the future was not the future and perhaps the past and we’re all stuck in a Pink Floyd cyclical pattern. ahhh…
