AngeloComet: Permanent Notes

Permanent&nbsp;Notes

‘If anything goes wrong, Desmond Hume will be my Constant.’ – Quotation from Daniel Faraday’s Journal

To begin, let me attempt to clarify the meaning of the above notation. As I am sure you remember, the episode The Constant had Desmond’s consciousness flipping back to his past where he encountered Faraday and explained his predicament to him.

Desmond: “Um… Sorry. I’m Desmond Hume, and um… I was told I could find you here. I think I’ve… just been to the future.”

Dan: “… The future?”

Desmond: “Yes. Uh, I spoke to you there, you told me to come here, to Oxford, to find you. You said you’d help me.”

We know what happens next. Faraday used Eloise the rat to explain how Desmond needed a Constant to resolve his situation, and so Desmond used Penny in 1996 with a phone call in 2004 and voila! Instant Constant! But sticking with Faraday for a second, he makes an important point.

Dan: “Alright, this, this future version of me… Uh, he referenced this meeting, right? Obviously, so, so I would remember you coming to Oxford, right? I would remember this, here, right now.”

Desmond: “Actually, um, no.”

Dan: “No.”

Desmond: “Maybe you just forgot.”

Dan: “Yeah, right, how would that happen?”

The question of why 2004 Faraday doesn’t recall this meeting in 1996 is important, and places a lot more importance on his journal. See, for all of his cynicism, it would seem Faraday genuinely did forget this meeting. Indeed, it seems something happened to his memory right across the board. Charlotte was doing the memory test game with him, for one thing, as an indication that something had happened.

Probably if Season 4 had allowed more time with ‘The Freighties’ we may have been given a clearer picture of this. As it is, The Constant merely makes a throwaway suggestion that Faraday not wearing protective headgear whilst conducting his studies may eventually effect his memory functioning. I’ll suggest an alternative further on.

But back to the journal, and the message Faraday left himself. ‘If anything goes wrong, Desmond Hume will be my Constant.’ What I have to impress upon you here is that this message was permanent. It was always there. When Faraday was travelling on The Freighter, that note was in the journal. When Faraday parachuted onto the Island, that note was in the journal. It did not appear retroactively. It did not turn up because Desmond appeared in the past. The note was always there.

Personally, I think Dan wrote it shortly after Desmond visited him, to serve as a form of insurance policy. A ‘Constant Guarantee’ if you like.

Of course, with Faraday’s memory loss the note would not have made much sense to him. If he had skimmed over his notes whilst he was on The Freighter, for example, and read ‘Desmond Hume will be my Constant’ then it wouldn’t have meant much. He didn’t remember Desmond. It was just a name. It was only afterwards that he went scrabbling through his journal and discovered the message he had left for himself and realised the importance of it.

Does this not beg intrigue at what else is contained within this journal? What other relevant stuff has Dan once known and since forgotten, but at least made note of? And how did he know it in the first place?

Let’s end this with some far-reaching theory. Currently we have the interesting possibility that Faraday may have gone to the past on the Island. Possibly this paves the way for him to spend time with the Dharma Initiative in their heyday, and get to learn about The Swan and The Orchid and The Tempest. What if, at some stage during this time, Faraday gets this information to his younger self?

I’m loathe to suggest that he might do the old ‘mind time travel consciousness shifting’ and go back to his younger self, write down a bunch of notes in his journal, and then return to his original timeline. But it would be an explanation. Alternatively, he could have mailed notes to himself, perhaps? Or sent a piece of video (like Pierre Chang) with some crucial information on it?

The idea I like best? That he does get involved in some ‘mind consciousness shifting’ to his younger self, but it’s not a temporary thing. It’s permanent. Possibly it’s the result of the infamous ‘incident’ at The Swan. And the process frazzled both minds in the fusion, causing memory problems and a sense of confusion.

Remember when Faraday was sat in front of the television, watching news of the Oceanic crash? He was crying, and he didn’t know why. Maybe in that confused, future memory-addled brain of his, the truth of it all was tucked away there, weeping its way out…

(This theory isn’t as weird as it sounds, especially if you’ve read Slaughterhouse Five, of which this crying scene appears to be a direct reference.)

‘If anything goes wrong, Desmond Hume will be my Constant.’ Maybe Faraday did need a Constant. Maybe he did use Desmond when things went wrong. But maybe, instead of having his consciousness reconciled with his present, it instead got reconciled with his past – and so it remained, permanently.

Top 10 explanations of what the show is about…

They are on the Star Trek Enterprise and this is all happening on the holodeck.

This is all a hallucination brought on by bad cheese.

This is how the airline disposes of lost luggage when its found again… this is why they call it “LOST”

Lost is the sequel made for TV of Cast Away.

The whole show is just one giant commercial for MacCutcheon Whiskey.

This is the ultimate season of Survivor… “Survivor Purgatory”

In season 5 they all turn into Zombies and start dancing… this is a very elaborate and long remake of the Michael Jackson music video “Thriller”

This is a modern day remake of Gilligan’s island… Charlie is Gilligan.

The others work for Santa Clause and they are making a list of the naughty and nice on the island.

Jacob is Sauron and they are looking for the one ring… but no one knows Desmond thru it in the water after breaking up with Penny.

These my fellow LOST fanatics are the top 10 simple explanations to the mystery behind the show.

Sirking: Rousseau, Annie, Ben, and Alex Theory

Rousseau, Annie, Ben, and Alex&nbsp;Theory

I’ve always stood by the Annie = Rousseau belief and now I’ve formed a theory that puts it all together.

OK so here’s my theory.

Ben and Annie continued their relationship and one time Ben unwillingly made Annie pregnant. The DI must have seen this as an opportunity for some research, but it went wrong and affected Annie’s mind, making her forget who Ben even was, just as Claire didn’t know who the other Losties were after they injected her.

This would have caused Ben to get mad at the DI, kill them all, and join the hostiles. However, since he still felt something for Annie/Rousseau he let her live but brainwashed her the same way he did to Karl. It’s possible that everything Rousseau says about her past isn’t true but was told to her by Ben during the brainwashing. The music box was Ben’s way of showing Rousseau that he still cared for her.

All this obviously had a very negative impact on Ben’s character, making him the cold-hearted, no-caring person we know (The only thing he seems to care about is Alex)

All this happened 16 years ago, which was the time Alex was conceived and the time the DI were killed.

When Alex was conceived, Ben stole her to protect her. He never denied that Rousseau was her mother. In fact he admits it, the first time Alex meets her. Also, Rousseau never denied that Ben was Alex’s father. Maybe some part of her memory was triggered at the sight of Ben. Ben himself probably got caught in one of Rousseau’s traps on purpose to tell her something important. (Maybe he WANTED to get caught by the Losties)

Also, here are a few minor ideas to support my theory.

The name “Danielle” is very similar to “Annie” (dANIElle). This change in name could have happened through Ben’s brainwashing.
-Rousseau caught Ben in a net. Note Sawyer’s definition of being caught in a net. (possibly hinting as Alex being the daughter of both of them)

bigdaveg: Juliets Mission (a question)

Juliets Mission (a&nbsp;question)

When Kate, Locke, Sayid and Danielle go to take Jack back to their island halfway through season 3. The others throw gas canisters through the windows and doors ad leave to go somewhere leaving Sayid, Jack, Kate and Juliet behind.

When Kate wakes she finds that Juliet is handcuffed to her. Later on in that episode we find out that Juliet handcuffed herself to Kate ” so she didn’t get left behind”.

Well a bit later on it turns out that Juliet and Ben have conspired to make it look as though they left her behind, when in fact she’s there to be taken back into the losties camp to spy and collect sample from the females in the camp.

So the question i would like to ask is

A) Does Juliet know that Ben is no longer on the Island? and if so is she still carrying out orders for Ben to spy on the losties whodnt leave the Island?

B) Is Juliet preparing things for Ben’s return? as Ben has told her of eventual outcomes and what to do in certain circumstances? i.e the island moving etc sort of thir own primary, secondary protocol’s etc

bellaisola: Sorry guys, here it is easier to read 316 is not a batting average.

Sorry guys, here it is easier to read 316 is not a batting&nbsp;average.

I’ve been bothered by what happened to all of the dead bodies from Oceanic flight 815. Lostpedia tells us that there were 324 people aboard the flight and that this number included crew members. I’ve done some digging and some calculations and have come up with some surprising results.

I started at: http://www.oceanic-air.com/seatingchart.htm From this site I was able to find the information I needed regarding the physical layout of the plane. The first odd thing that popped up was the passenger seating capacity of the plane. It says that there are 352 total seats available on the flight. Available seats are indicated by light blue in the key. All of the seats are colored light blue. When I counted the light blue seats it came to 361. So, I counted again, the same result. Keep in mind that this site is designed like a real airline site. Seating availability does not include flight attendant jump seats or the like. We have a discrepancy of nine seats.

The total number of people on the plane was 324. To break that down between crew and passengers I went to several websites. I determined that for a 777 there are always 2 crew in the cockpit. For the flight attendants I went to the FAA website. From there I determined there would have been 6 flight attendants on board. And between several airline sites I found that they would be distributed 2/2/2. Two in each passenger area of the plane. So, in we have a total of 8 crew members on the plane. 324 - 8 = 316 A total of 316 passengers on Oceanic flight 815. My guess is that this episode in Season five will deal with the passenger list.

Next I wanted to break down the surviving passengers according to section. There were ZERO passenger survivors from the 1st class/ business class section of the plane. There were 48 passenger survivors from the fuselage and there were 21 passenger survivors from the tail section. That gives us a total of 69 surviving passengers. With the (barely) surviving pilot from the cockpit and the flight attendant from the tail section we have a total of 71 survivors from the crash. (Plus Vincent of course, and who knows WHAT he is. :)
   324 - 71 = 253 dead 6 crew members and 247 passengers.

There was 316 passengers and the capacity was either 352 or 361. If we break it down to percentages of empty seats this is what I come up with: 10.2% for 352 capacity and 12.5% for 361 capacity. Following is the percentage of empty seats in each section—First class/ Business class—75 seats total. Fuselage—180 seats total. Tail — 106 seats total.

75 x 10.2%= 7.65 round up to 8 75 - 8 = 67 passengers 75 x 12.5%= 9.37 remains 9 75 - 9 = 66 passengers

180 x 10.2% = 18.4 remains 4 180 - 18 = 162 passengers 180 x 12.5% = 22.5 remains 22 180 - 22 = 158 passengers

106 x 10.2% = 10.81 round up to 11 106 - 11 = 95 passengers 106 x 12.5% = 13.25 remains 13 106 - 13 = 93 passengers

Adding them up: 352 capacity: 324 passengers. 361 capacity: 317 passengers. When we add crew in the 352 capacity has 332 total people on the plane. The 361 capacity is 325 people on the plane. The latter being much closer to the survival number of 24. Either the site designers of the Oceanic page were lazy and sloppy or there is a discrepancy on purpose. Could there have been an additional 8 or 9 people on the plane we are unaware of?

The cockpit/1st class/biz class should have had 67 people dead — 0/66 passenger survivors and 1/2 crew survivors.

The fuselage should have had 110 people dead. 48/168 passenger survivors and 0/2 crew survivors.

The tail should have had 71 people dead. 21/93 passenger survivors and 1/2 crew survivors.

So where are all the dead bodies? I haven’t seen a single dead passenger body in the jungle except for the one strapped into the seat next to Bernard in the tree. Why didn’t any passengers survive from the first class/ business class section. Mr. Eko certainly didn’t bury 71 bodies and there are not 110 graves on Jacks beach. There is something wrong about where the bodies are. I hope you all have some input on this. I’ve worked hard on this and hope I haven’t made any arithmetic mistakes, but feel free to tell me if I did. Dear god I hope this worked right this time.

(Plus Vincent of course, and who knows <span class="caps">WHAT</span> he is. :)

324 - 71 = 253 dead 6 crew members and 247 passengers.

There was 316 passengers and the capacity was either 352 or 361. If we break it down to percentages of empty seats this is what I come up with: 10.2% for 352 capacity and 12.5% for 361 capacity. Following is the percentage of empty seats in each section&#8212;First class/ Business class&#8212;75 seats total. Fuselage&#8212;180 seats total. Tail &#8212; 106 seats total.

75 x 10.2%= 7.65 round up to 8 75 - 8 = 67 passengers
   75 x 12.5%= 9.37 remains 9 75 - 9 = 66 passengers

180 x 10.2% = 18.4 remains 4 180 - 18 = 162 passengers
   180 x 12.5% = 22.5 remains 22 180 - 22 = 158 passengers

106 x 10.2% = 10.81 round up to 11 106 - 11 = 95 passengers
   106 x 12.5% = 13.25 remains 13 106 - 13 = 93 passengers

I haven&#8217;t seen a single dead passenger body in the jungle except for the one strapped into the seat next to Bernard in the tree. Why didn&#8217;t any passengers survive from the first class/ business class section. Mr. Eko certainly didn&#8217;t bury 71 bodies and there are not 110 graves on Jacks beach. There is something wrong about where the bodies are. I hope you all have some input on this. I&#8217;ve worked hard on this and hope I haven&#8217;t made any arithmetic mistakes, but feel free to tell me if I&nbsp;did.

slamMojo: Fantasy Island

Fantasy&nbsp;Island

Lost is just one verrrrrrry loooooooong extended episode of Fantasy Island. All of the major characters are Island clients whose fantasy is to survive a plane crash on a “not so deserted island”. As was the case in many of the first episodes of Fantasy Island, what the clients want isn’t necessarily what they get. Each of the major players is given a shared fantasy of being a survivor of a plane crash, but each one gets a personal fantasy designed just for him/her where they address issues that burden their hearts, e.g. Jack (a doctor) gets to deal with the fact that his father’s recent death has made him realize he is turning into his father with his alcoholism/drug addiction problem. Other characters are dealt with in the same fashion.

Kate (a waitress) gets to fantasize about how her life would be if she killed her biological reprobate father, and how she would survive using skills and techniques taught to her by the stepfather she truly loves. Hurley (a fast food worker) gets to fantasize about being a millionaire, but is haunted by all the stories about curses on lottery winners, etc., etc..

The final episode will have the major players, even the dead ones, getting on a plane and being bid farewell by Mr. Roark and his associate Tattoo.

Doggadooga: The Island went back in time, and the original "hostiles" are explained!!!

The Island went back in time, and the original &#8220;hostiles&#8221; are&nbsp;explained!!!

There is plenty of evidence that when ben moved the island, he really sent it back in time. I’m getting all of these clips from the season 5 trailer at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mX7md0HoR8E . Watch this first.

First, if you skip to 2:36 in the video above, you see everyone who is still on the island (Juliet, Sawyer, Faraday) at their camp at the beach but for some reason it isnt there. it looks like everyone is looking around thinking “Where’s our camp?” This is probably because the went back in time and their camp hasn’t been made yet.

Second, The video shows a clip of Juliet finding a hatch (2:05 in the video above) and Daniel Faraday at the back door to the hatch (1:03). Since we saw that the hatch blew up in previous seasons, the only way that it can still be there is if they were back in time. Also, The same clip of Daniel Faraday finding the hatch (1:03) shows someone in a Dharma Suit holding him at gunpoint. This means that they were sent back to the time in which the Dharma Initiative is still on the island.

Also, There is a clip at 1:37 of the video above where Charlotte and Faraday are being held at gunpoint by what looks like workers of The Dharma initiative.

This theory makes great sense because if you remember back to the flashbacks of ben linus as kid, when he comes to the Dharma Initiative and is in school, at one point, all the alarms go off and the adults all grab guns and run off like thay are being attacked. And they all say “The hostiles are attacking” But we never found out who the “hostiles were” … well if you look at the video and skip to 2:10, you will see juliet, sawyer, Faraday, etc. (the people who are still on the island) running away from people who are shooting flaming arrows at them. Could it be that Juliet, Sawyer, Farady, and/or the “others” (with Locke) are the hostiles?

The biggest clue is Richard.. If you dont remember richard here’s a picture http://www.losthatch.com/images%5Cscreen_captures%5CS3E20RichardAgeless.jpg
We know for sure that richard is on the island after ben moved it and that he is definately with locke, juliet, sawyer, faraday, etc. because in the last episode of season 4, when ben is about to move the island, we see locke meet up with richard. With that being said, we know that richard is on the island after it was moved and he is there with juliet, sawyer, faraday, etc. This is a big clue because during Ben Linus’s flashback, in the episode, The Man Behind The Curtain, Ben linus as a kid escapes from the Dharma initiative and goes into the forest, where he sees Richard! The video of ben as a child encountering richard is here… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFTR6CYGSf4&feature=related . This proves that Juliet, sawyer, Faraday, etc. are the “hostiles” to the Dharma Initiative.

If you dont understand anything i talked about just comment.

maurox0: Faith vs Science dharma vs the others and Charles Widmore

Faith vs Science dharma vs the others and Charles&nbsp;Widmore

I worked hard on this theory. I know there’s a lot of speculation, but I think this can link many theories out there about the dharma initiative, Charles Widmore, Jacob and the numbers. If there’s any spelling or grammar error let me know. Feel free to post you thoughts about this.

Faith vs. science is one of the biggest themes in this show and maybe it is the key of the background plot.

The numbers determinate the day (probably they are the date like On those freaky numbers… theory) of the human extinction and the dharma initiative was trying to change them to give the humanity more time or another chance, something along those lines, therefore the humanity is supposed to disappear. I think there is something going on between Charles Widmore and the dharma initiative, maybe they are related or maybe Charles Widmore is another force on its own.

The hostiles are the original inhabitants of the island they seem to have supernatural abilities like never aging (Richard Alpert) and teletransportation (when they appear from nowhere whit the whispers and stuff).Furthermore It seems like they work for Jacob.

I think Jacob is the island or its representation (the point is that he works for the island objectives), also I think Jacob/island are like agents of destiny, ensuring everything happens like it is supposed.

I support all of this in John Locke (my favorite character =D). I think he haves a very special connection whit faith and destiny and what he does is, indeed, what he is supposed to do. First he saw the hearth of the island (Smokey) and he followed his dreams. After he lost his faith with the hatch, ecko helps him find it again. Then he kept following his dreams (I assume this dreams are caused by the island like Ben said he used to have dreams) and finally met Jacob. The first time he didn’t believe in him, but after he survived the bullet shot by Ben he followed the Christian’s (in behave of Jacob) orders to move the island. I think everything that John Locke follows is destiny.

In conclusion what I want to say is that the Dharma initiative (Charles Widmore maybe around there or maybe he just want to exploit the island) is Science trying to stop the humanity hopeless final faith and the Hostiles(following Jacob/island) want destiny to follows its natural course. (That would be the reason why Jacob ordered the Purge)

Also I think they have other objectives (like I said in my other theory about the smoke monster you can read it in my profile) like selecting the good and bad people.

The following is almost another theory on its own(I Didn’t wanted to make another post, but maybe i will):

*(maybe they are choosing the good people to keep them on the island so they survive the extinction (remember Ben said ”God (faith destiny) doesn’t see this island”) so they would be working for faith but they also got their personal interests. Futhermore maybe Widmore wants to get to the island to save himself or other people. This part was pure speculation, it sounds a very interesting, though =)*.

mingpan: Bits & Pieces non-linear

Bits <span class="amp">&amp;</span> Pieces&nbsp;non-linear

what with all the time-issue speculation reaching it’s pre-season 5 crescendo, & L_dubtzs great theory: http://lost-theories.com/theories/2009/jan/03/rules-parallel-universe-travel/
I was led to think of the film the philadelphia experiment.

I vaguely remembered seeing a whole town flying through a time-vortex and also bits of the ship were found in the desert plus the two sailors time travelling & criss-crossing. So I looked up the plot to remind myself and I came across this:

‘ David realizes that Longstreet has tried the same experiment again, this time to protect a town from ICBM attack. The same problem happened… and although they shut down their generators, the town did not reappear. Longstreet says there’s still a generator running somewhere in hyperspace… on the ship, the Eldridge. According to history, the Eldridge reappeared when David shut down the generator. Longstreet says that unless the vortex is closed, it will destroy the Earth - it is already starting to pull up surface matter as it grows. The vortex is a disruption in the space-time continuum. David must go through the vortex and return to the Eldridge.’

This made me think that whatever has happend on the island since the wheel was turned may have led to ‘bits and pieces’ i.e. people (like dharma), objects (like the Beechcraft) and places (like the hatch) being caught like the things in the Philadelphia experiment and transported to different times, rather than the island itself having moved to a specific time in history.

so that the island certainly moved through hyperspace but picked up some passengers and other things and places as it went. Pierre Chang did say time is not of the essence that it IS the essence. So all this time I kind of thought of the Island moving as somehow LINEAR, but I imagine that its the TIME which is moving in a non-Linear way, so it’s possible that all the things we see in season five may not even be permanent.

So in my mind before, I thought the island moved back to so and so time (which seemd to cause more problems in theory than it solved anyway) and that the inhabitants who moved with it would then experience a linear flow of time from that moment on.

Wheras NOW I am thinking, the island moved through hyperspace but time moved so that the inhabitants experienced several times either altogether in ‘one time frame’ or possibly even in bits and pieces over weeks, but for that we will have to wait and see how season 5 plays out.

It could be that when we see the beechcraft crash, that in linear time, there it would be and our inhabitants would be living from that time, but I think if it is TIME itself which has gorn astray, that the crashing of the beechcraft may just be one particular time which the inhabitants witness. The next day it may not be freshly crashed at all, it may be exactly how it was for most of the time that we have seen it.

Am I making sense or have i lost the plot?

I also like the bit about the generator still running somewhere in hyperspace, I wonder if that type of idea fits into LOST in any way

lost numbers&nbsp;ideas

was playing with the lost numbers and found out some cool stuff

in the episode the Constant, Faraday told him to set the machine on 2,342 oscillating (23 and 42) and oscillating on eleven 11 (15-4)
another thing i found out was that 4+8+15+16+23+42=108
oceanic 815= 8 and 15. Kate got turned in for 23 000$ (23) John spend 4 years in wheelchair (4) Danielle’s signal had played for 16 year (16)

everyone kinda met before the&nbsp;plain

i was watching some lost while i was sick and found out some weird things… everyone met some other on before the plain, met through others or saw them.

lets start with jack-> shannon, Jacks father, Desmond. Jacks father-> Ana Lucia, sawyer, claire. Shannon->boone. Desmond->Libby, and the guy who made sayid torture his leader->sayid->kate’s father->kate. Libby-> Hurley-> Jin saw him on tv when he gave a message. Claire-> psychic who sent her on the plain->eko. Sawyer-> John’s father-> John.
   Sayid-> sayid’s girlfriend->charlie

begbie: desmond and his overall importance

desmond and his overall&nbsp;importance

this is why i think desmond is central to everything

well after season 4 it would appear that desmonds story is complete. he has fled the island that he loathes, he has finally been reunited with his love. everything wrapped up in a neat little package.
but i think this is only the beginning of desmonds story. i think that his connection to mrs. hawking will be explored more..and when all is said and done desmond will really be central to the island/jacob mystery. m noy saying that he is jacob, but that he is connected in some way. i also think that we will see desmond set foot on the island again despite him saying he never would !

TheConstant: Meet me at the safehouse (NRAT)

Meet me at the safehouse&nbsp;(<span class="caps">NRAT</span>)

This isn’t REALLY a theory, but more of an observation intended to spark discussion. There are some great minds here who I feel could take these few minor observations and really run with them.

So, I got the Season 4 boxset of Lost for Christmas, and I started watching them yesterday, and the last episode I watched was 4x03 “The Economist”.

These flashforwards show Sayid, off-island, working for Benjamin Linus as a head-hunter. He’s in search of an “Economist”, who he is attempting to reach through a woman named Elsa, who is working for the Economist.

In what I believe was the second-last flashforward of the episode, Elsa shoots Sayid, upon finding out that he is after her employer. In a panic, Elsa calls who I’m assuming is the Economist that Sayid is after.

NOW: I picked up on two things, which I’m hoping are significant or this post will be torn to bits and thrown to the lions.

1) Elsa complains to her employer, that he/she was supposed to “meet her at the safehouse”. Now, as we know, Sayid, at the end of Season 4, breaks Hurley out of Santa Rosa hospital and takes him to a “safe” place, which we know to be a safehouse, from the Season 5 promo.

Is he going to go after the Economist? But I’m wondering, if that was the case, why would he bring Hurley?

2) When speaking to her employer on the phone, she speaks in a different language. I think the general consensus at first was that the Economist who Ben is after was Charles Widmore. I disagree with this for two reasons.

One, is that from episode 9, “The Shape Of Things To Come”, we learn that Widmore, for some reason can’t be killed. I’ve gathered this from the lines,

Widmore: “Have you come to kill me?”
Ben: “We both know I can’t do that.”

I’ve assumed this is because Widmore “has work to do”, and the Island is keeping him alive. So why would Ben send Sayid after an invincible target?

Second reason is, why would Elsa speak to Widmore in a foreign language? This lead me to assume the person on the other end of the phone was not Widmore.

I wasn’t able to identify the language being spoken, I’m a bit lacking on that department. Perhaps someone could lend their knowledge?

I thought at first maybe it was Korean. Is the Economist Mr Paik?

It would make sense. Think about it - if Ben wants to stop Widmore from getting to the Island, but he can’t kill him, what can he do? Take out his contacts. Any business partners, funding his attempt to locate the Island.

Anyway, make what you will of this suggestion. Again, if anyone could identify the foreign language, it would be well appreciated. :)

Thanks for reading.

My locke&nbsp;theory

i searched the jist of my theory and pulled up nothing so if its been said before sorry but just be happy it aint a pilot clue theory

so ill keep it short and sweet but basically what if john locke died in the crash but is able to live on the island since it is not set in any timeline. and going a bit deeper he dies off island as a course correction because hes not suppose to be alive in that time. so there ya go lockes dead but alive and thats why hes dead and how lol now rip it up and do what u guys guys do go eagles and ravnes today

needdirections: Statue Poetry - Ozymandias

Statue Poetry -&nbsp;Ozymandias

Connections between the four-toed statue and 19th century poetry.

Ok… lets face it, the connection is to poetry and its not all that exciting to everyone. To those who are not familiar with the author Percy Bysshe Shelley (husband to Mary Shelley the author of Frankenstein - mad scientists already sounds like Lost to me) he wrote a short poem about the rise and fall of a civilization under the rule of Ramesses The Great of Egypt also called OZYMANDIAS, the title of the poem…

I met a traveller from an antique land

Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone

Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,

Half sunk, a shatter’d visage lies, whose frown

And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command

Tell that its sculptor well those passions read

Which yet survive, stamp’d on these lifeless things,

The hand that mock’d them and the heart that fed.

And on the pedestal these words appear:

“My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:

Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!”

Nothing beside remains: round the decay

Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,

The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Now although the poem talks of two trunkless legs that stand in the desert and near them the rest of the crumbled statue lies (not entirely the same as Lost) it might explain the inspiration for the idea of including the statue in the show. As for four toes? It’s not in the poem but it does amp up the uncanny factor.

Perhaps the Losties will discover the rest of the crumbled visage scattered somewhere on the (now-vanished) island, who knows.

Also, a previous post (sorry didn’t copy link, search watchmen in theories) about the connections between Lost and Watchmen was pretty interesting and this only furthers it considering Ozymandias is a central character in the graphic novel (and this poem offers a thematic correlate to him in Watchmen and perhaps the fighting civilizations on the island).

Lastly, to strengthen the possibility of the influence of this poem on the writers lets consider one more fact about Shelley’s work… Shelley wrote the poem Ozymandias as almost a competition with his friend (name significance?) Horace Smith who also wrote a poem titled Ozymandias…

In Egypt’s sandy silence, all alone,

Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws

The only shadow that the Desert knows:

“I am great OZYMANDIAS,” saith the stone,

“The King of Kings; this mighty City shows

“The wonders of my hand.” The City’s gone,

Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose

The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, and some Hunter may express

Wonder like ours, when thro’ the wilderness

Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,

He meets some fragments huge, and stops to guess

What powerful but unrecorded race

Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

Just one leg this time. Maybe the writers prefer Horace’s version. They liked his name. Goodspeed enthusiasts, take from this what you will.

Pez123: Something about the LOST time-travel that I can't figure out

Something about the <span class="caps">LOST</span> time-travel that I can&#8217;t figure&nbsp;out

Im just trying to figure out something about the LOST time-travel. It’s got something to do with the past and changing the future, or, by Ms. Hawking: “Course-Correcting”.

I know the island went back to the past, but what I am curious about is the future ahead of them.

In the future of Lost, or in the flash-forwards, we see that by the end of about 3 years, the Losties have been told that bad things happened on the island. Some are depressed, some don’t have a clue what is going on.

What I was thinking, is that, because they went back in time, due to Ben and the Orchid, can they still change the future, or not.

I raised this question to myself while re-watching episode 23 part 1 of season 2. After Michael admits to killing Ana-Lucia and Libby, Michael says he didn’t have any time to think. Hurley says “But if you did have time, you still would’ve killed her right?”

This made me think that although they went back to the past, they can’t change the future, i.e. Michael will still be a murderer.

Hope you understand this

Any comments?

I just stumbled across this photo, doesn’t it look like the brand Julia got…the MARK?

wishiwasonisland: HG Wells...and his time travelling...

<span class="caps">HG</span> Wells&#8230;and his time&nbsp;travelling&#8230;

I think the island moves up and down through time …not back and forth…

Ben knew exactly where to go to to find his passports and money…I think the rock wall where he found these is located either above or below where they were located on the island, which I now think is on a different level…somewhat like being on an elevator…I think the rock wall is in on a different level in his house, the same place as is his house in “Otherton” …that is how he knew how to find them so easily…deleted scenes, but, still important…..

wookstar: Radzinsky and Dharma videos

Radzinsky and Dharma&nbsp;videos

With all the speculation that the island went back in time, some people on this site have theorized that Radzinsky is actually Daniel Faraday.

My theory is this: suppose Daniel is Radzinsky, and he did cut out that footage off the Dharma video (the one where it said to not contact the outside world using the computers), then why would he do this? My theory is to do with fate and destiny (a topic heavily discussed in the Lost universe). Maybe he did this so someone would use the computer to contact the outside world, and in this case it was Michael.

Maybe he needed Michael to do something (even though I am not sure what). Also, I think it is a common theory that it was the :Others” that were communicating to Michael thru the computer - could it be possible that it was someone else? Suggestion welcome! I have a feeling that Radzinsky has a very important part to play in Lost…

cherns23: Ben moved the island back in time

Ben moved the island back in&nbsp;time

When Ben moves the island, there is no island to be seen in every direction by the Oceanic 6, who are in the life raft at that point in the season 4 finale. This and many other reasons lead me to believe that the island was not moved in location, but moved back in time.

Some evidence, or things to support the theory.
   1. It would make a great storyline for season 5. Now that a bunch of the main characters are off the island, what is going to happen to Locke, Sawyer, Juliet and everyone else on the island. Right now, there is only one group on the island, assuming Sawyer goes to live with Richard and Locke. Think about what would happen, if Sawyer, Juliet, Locke and all of the islanders were still there, but so were the DHARMA initiative, and of course, Danielle Rousseau’s boat crashes on the island?

In an interview with the lost writers, they stated that “We will see Danielle’s story, but not neccesarily in a flashback”. So if it is not in a flashback, it has to be in the present, which is why the island would have to go back in time to the point that she crashes there.

In the season 4 finale, Ben and Jack state that John Locke said that bad things happened when Jack left. So, these bad things could have to do with the DHARMA initiative still being on the island? Locke also says that these bad things are Jack’s fault. If we think back to season 3 finale, it was Jack’s fault that the freighter ever made contact with the island, and if the freighter never came, or any of their people, Ben would have never moved the island in time, and none of these bad things would have happened.

Syracks: Where/When the Island went.

Where/When the Island&nbsp;went.

I am new to Lost theories and i just had a “moment of clarity” and i feel like i have to post it :P. Forgive me if anyone else has posted this conclusion, i haven’t looked too much.

By now you realize that there is obviously some sort of “Time travel” going on in the show. This is what i got from watching the new Season 5 Trailers on youtube. In the preview they show 3 big things that point to this theory.
   1. Juliette finding a “hatch” (very similar to the one that John Lock found.
   2. When Daniel Faraday was getting ambushed by a man in a jump suit coming out of the “Hatch” from season 1 dressed in the same yellow jump suit that Joe Inman had when he got Desmond off the beach.
   3. Finally, the big one… Ethan Pointing a rifle at John Lock for about .5 seconds…
All these point to Time travel in the “Terminator” Rules (create another past and still have the future) not the “Back to the Future Rules” (Go back in the past and change the future) the question still remains as to where… hopefully you guys can put in your thoughts and we can have this theory grow :)

Be easy my first time posting a theory :P please let me know what you guys think

Zwolf11: Pilot Clue NAT

Pilot Clue&nbsp;<span class="caps">NAT</span>

Here’s my thought of what is the pilot clue…

So, I’ve been lurking for a while now (well actually about 2 days), and I’ve heard some about the clue that was placed in the pilot episode. So, I rewatched the pilot and was looking for the littlest things.

Here’s what I found, when Jack tells Hurley to stay with Claire after the wing crashes down, Hurley says “don’t worry dude, I’m not going anywhere” If you look in his hand you see something silver and band like.

Now, I believe this is either Jin’s watch, meaning Hurley is from the future, or it is the band that Sayid took from I think Naomi. (mabye it was someone else, but I’m not gonna rewatch all the episodes to find out :P). This would also mean Hurley is from the future.

I’m just pointing out what I thought was to be the pilot clue, so flame me if you want. Also, sorry if anyone ever noticed that but I used the search and searched hurley and pilot and nothing came up, so if it’s already been posted, I apologize.
